Aux Merveilleux de Fred: the place where French meets Czech, history meets present, and Brioches meets Merveilleux.
Conveniently located on Revoluční street, you can find the boutique belonging to globally credited Aux Merveilleux de Fred; famous for their Merveilleux, a pastry originating from the north of France and Belgium.
Besides these delightful treats, Aux Merveilleux de Fred also offers brioches and waffles, all handmade on the spot. Open every day from 8:00 during the week and 9:00 during the weekends, until 19:00 in the evening, there is no excuse not to indulge in some French delicacies.
The concept started almost 30 years ago when pastry chef Frédéric Vaucamps revisited the traditional recipe of the Merveilleux, Prague’s CEO Romain explains.
“Initially the Merveilleux was quite heavy, but now it’s a new cake with meringue and whipped cream making it unique.” After the first opening in France, the concept flourished becoming a global business, eventually opening its doors in Prague.
Prague was always a familiar name for Aux Merveilleux de Fred, as you can find beautiful chandeliers from the Czech company Preciosa in every boutique.
“All chandeliers come from the Czech Republic; because of that, we wanted to do something special. We have the biggest chandelier in this shop,” Romain adds. With the chandelier taking 2 months to make and 3 people to install, it is an inevitable showstopper.
Besides the combination of Czech decor with French flavors, as well as historical interiors and recipes blown into a new life, it is worth to note the craft with which the pastries are made.
Products are partially imported from France to ensure quality and flavor. Instead of offering a wide variety of products, Aux Merveilleux de Fred only specializes in a handful, making them by hand every day in their boutique for the public to catch sight of.
From quality to service, Aux Merveilleux de Fred greatly values the importance of their clients’ experiences.
Romain mentions; “It’s rewarding to see the effort of what you are doing in people’s reaction.” Aux Merveilleux de Fred is truly worth a visit, and no matter where you are in the world, a Merveilleux will never be far.
