This Saturday: Brasil Fest Returns to Brno With Performances and Public Parade
Prague Morning
You don’t need a plane ticket to experience the rhythms of Brazil—just a train to Brno.
Brno will once again become a hub of Brazilian culture as the city welcomes the return of Brasil Fest Brno, the largest event of its kind in Central Europe.
The three-day festival kicks off on Thursday, with a full schedule of concerts, dance performances, and street parades bringing a tropical flair to Brno’s historic center.
On Saturday, the festival’s main parade will move through the city center, joined by hundreds of dancers and musicians from across Europe and Latin America.
The route starts at Moravské náměstí and ends at Zelný trh. This year, for the first time, the parade will include a five-meter puppet of the Brno dragon, decorated in the Brazilian national colors.
A warm-up area will be set up by the statue of Jošt, where visitors can join in, have carnival-style makeup applied, and take part in the procession.
This year’s program has expanded in both scale and ambition. On Friday, the legendary Brazilian band Nação Zumbi will play a rare European show at První Patro club.
Known for blending funk, rock, maracatu, and psychedelia, the band is marking its 30th anniversary and is considered one of the most influential on the Brazilian music scene. “It’s going to be an explosive, high-energy concert,” Škrha promises.
The carnival parade on Saturday will also feature major names from the Latin American dance and percussion scene. Among them: Gabriel Policarpo, a master of the repique drum, and Luara Bombo, crowned Primeira Princesa do Carnaval do Rio in 2022.
Czech dancer and StarDance winner Veronika Lálová, who also danced in Rio this year, is returning to Brno with an original choreography created especially for the festival.
Dozens of international performers and hundreds of local participants will help transform the city into a stage of movement, rhythm, and color.
