Farmers’ Markets Return to Prague – How Much Will You Spend This Season?

Spring is arriving in Prague, and with it, the return of farmers’ markets across the city. These markets, known for their fresh local produce, handmade goods, and artisanal specialties, are once again welcoming visitors. One of the first markets to open this year was the Budějovická Farmers’ Market, which began on Tuesday, February 25. The market will take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. above the entrance to the Budějovická metro station. Around ten stalls were already set up on opening day. Visitors can find traditional farm-fresh products, along with butcher’s specialties. Czech Lunch Prices Keep Climbing – But Prague Isn’t the Most Expensive

Czech restaurant prices continue to rise, with an increasing focus on healthier food choices. The average lunch menu in Czech restaurants now costs 193.90 CZK, marking an annual increase of nearly 4%. Surprisingly, Prague is not the most expensive region—that title goes to South Bohemia, followed by Central Bohemia, Pardubice, and Liberec. The cheapest lunches can be found in Olomouc and Zlín. According to the Barometer FOOD survey, 65% of Czechs have recently shifted towards healthier eating habits. Lunch Prices on the Rise, but Growth Slows According to the latest data from Edenred, the cost of a lunch menu has risen by up to 4% compared to 2023. “Between August and November, the average price fluctuated between 191 and 192 CZK. Another trend worth noting is the increase in transactions, with restaurants recording the highest number in December since September 2020,” said Aneta Martišková, a member of Edenred’s management team. Another Wave of Food Price Hikes in Czechia: What’s Behind It?

The Czech Republic has barely had time to recover from recent food price hikes, and another surge is already underway. This wave is marked by the most significant increase in agricultural producer prices in nearly two years. In January, the price of agricultural production rose by 9.1 percent year-on-year, the largest increase since March 2023. Potatoes, in particular, saw a significant rise of 6.2 percent month-on-month. While last year’s harvest was relatively strong, the price surge is largely due to the expansion of growers’ production areas. This trend was similarly observed in major producer countries like France and Germany, which have a direct impact on potato prices in the Czech Republic. But it’s not just supply issues driving the price increase – demand is also on the rise. This is partly due to the fading effects of recent years’ inflationary waves. Additionally, the cost of storing potatoes during the winter has risen due to higher energy costs, further contributing to the price increase. Croatian Fast Food Koykan Arrives in Prague – First Locations Revealed

Croatian fast food chain Koykan is set to expand into the Czech Republic, bringing its menu of burgers, burritos, and wraps to Prague. The company has confirmed that its first two locations will open in 2025 at Máj and Centrum Černý Most shopping centers. Koykan, which has been growing rapidly across Europe, aims to establish more than 25 company-owned restaurants by the end of 2027. Besides the Czech Republic, new branches are planned in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, and Slovakia. Eska, a popular bakery and kitchen in Prague’s Karlín district, has been a favorite since its opening, setting a new standard for high-quality, artisanal baked goods.
