The CEE Cup football tournament returns. Sparta will face two Latin-American teams, while Slavia has been paired with Aston Villa and Dynamo Kyiv
The top U19 international football tournament, which in the past has seen the likes of Tomáš Souček, Adam Hložek, or Alex Král compete in it, is finally back in Prague after a three-year “Covid” hiatus.
The CEE Cup will kick off on July 22nd with the group stage and end on July 26th with the Final. Today, the LOS determined the program for the two groups composed of three teams each.
Group A will see the last edition’s finalists, AC Sparta Praha, play newcomers from Mexico, the CD Tigres, in the opening match, and then they will confront the defending champions from Brazil, Palmeiras. In Group B, SK Slavia Praha will also cross paths with a newcomer to the CEE Cup, the English of Aston Villa, and also Ukraine’s own, Dynamo Kyiv.
“We are ecstatic that top football teams from around the world will once again travel to Prague to compete against the city’s best home clubs. Furthermore, it is our hope that the boys from Kyiv might be able to have a few fun-filled days to help take their mind off the war that is unfortunately still raging in their country,” says tournament director Roberto de Blasio.
The six games of the group stage will all take place at AC Sparta’s training grounds in Strahov, with two matches every day, from 3 pm to 5:30 pm.
The ranking matches will be played after rest day, just like the Final – on Tuesday, July 26th, in Vršovice Ďolíček, as per tradition, where they have always welcomed us, providing a wonderful atmosphere. The foreign teams will train on the training grounds of Slavia at Xaverov, in Horní Počernice, meaning that both top Prague league clubs will help contribute to the quality and success of the event.
The organizers have made available three types of tickets for the tournament – a full-access pass, which allows you to attend all the matches; a day ticket, which allows you to see the two group stage matches of the day; and, lastly, a ticket for the Final.
“The proceeds from the sale of the tickets will help buy an electric generator for the hospital in Kharkiv, Ukraine,” adds De Blasio.
