Europe in Lights: Žluté lázně Revives Famous Landmarks This Winter

Prague Morning

Žluté lázně in Podolí will once again light up the banks of the Vltava River as it transforms into a park filled with illuminated art installations.

The popular light exhibition, returning for its fourth year, opens to the public on October 31 and will remain on display until the end of January.

This year’s edition, titled “Heart of Europe,” celebrates the architectural icons and cultural symbols of the continent. Visitors can expect to see recreations of the Colosseum, Eiffel Tower, Sagrada Família, and other landmarks, all crafted from aluminum frames and thousands of LED lights.

The path guides visitors through nine European countries, from the temples of ancient Greece to the cathedrals of medieval Europe and the icons of modern architecture. Along the way, each country’s section is marked by illuminated gates displaying its national flag.

Among the featured installations are the Greek Acropolis with figures of Zeus and Athena, London’s Big Ben and Tower Bridge with their trademark red telephone boxes, Dutch windmills surrounded by tulips and wooden clogs, and Bratislava Castle alongside Prague’s Hradčany panorama.

In total, more than 250 light structures will illuminate the area — forty of them towering several meters high — powered by 55,000 LED bulbs connected by 50 kilometers of cabling.

Despite the size of the exhibition, its energy consumption is modest. “The entire park uses about as much power as two or three kettles running in a food stand,” says Eva Poláčková from Decoled, the company behind the exhibition..

Last winter, around 60,000 visitors came to see the illuminated sculptures, according to spokesperson Hana Tietze. This year, organizers expect even more guests, as the exhibition expands and introduces new attractions, including evening river cruises aboard illuminated sightseeing boats on selected days.

The light park will open daily from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., offering a winter escape for families and tourists alike. Similar exhibitions by Decoled are also running in Slovakia, Hungary, and Switzerland this season.
