Flora Metro to Close for 10 Months - Major Makeover Ahead
Prague Morning

A major reconstruction project will shut down Prague’s Flora metro station for ten months starting in the first quarter of 2026, as part of a long-awaited overhaul worth 1.29 billion CZK.
The work will include the installation of elevators, replacement of escalators, and a full renovation of both public and non-public station areas.
The reconstruction will begin in October 2025, but the station will remain open during the initial phase.
“We’d like to launch the work in October, with minimal restrictions at first. Full closure will follow in early 2026 for roughly ten months,” said Daniel Veverka, Head of DPP’s Metro Investment Department.
Flora station will become Prague’s 49th barrier-free metro stop thanks to the construction of two new elevators. The design mirrors recent upgrades at Jiřího z Poděbrad station, using a cascade system with a transfer corridor between lifts.
The lower elevator will be located at the platform level, opposite the current escalators.
The upper elevator will surface at Vinohradská Street, near the staircase leading to Olšanské Cemetery, just opposite the municipal police station. This entrance will have two exits: one at ground level and one on the sidewalk above.
What Else Will Be Upgraded?
- The revitalization includes a complete renewal of the station’s infrastructure:
- New cable systems, lighting, air conditioning, and suspended ceilings
- Replacement of damaged wall cladding
- A complete rebuild of the transformer station, unlike the project at Jiřího z Poděbrad
- Full escalator replacement
- Sealing of leaks and other maintenance work
The reconstruction contract was awarded to a joint venture between STRABAG and OHLA ŽS. The DPP signed the contract earlier this year, and the winning bid came in at 1.293 billion CZK (excluding VAT).
According to DPP spokeswoman Aneta Řehková, the entire project will be financed by Prague’s investment budget and the DPP’s own funds. The full construction timeline is estimated at 29 months.
