VIDEO: Formula Car Spotted (Again!) Racing on Czech Highway
Prague Morning
Videos have been circulating on social media since Sunday, showing a red formula car zigzagging across lanes on the D4 highway.
The convoy of race cars was spotted moving between Voznice, Dobříší, and Příbram. Clips show the formula speeding across lanes and even stopping at a gas station.
Police are now investigating. “We will check the drivers of the escort vehicles whose license plates are visible. Traffic cameras will also be reviewed, and we ask anyone who witnessed the racing and has dashcam footage to share it with the police,” said Vlasta Suchánková, a spokeswoman for the traffic department.
The identity of the driver remains unknown. This elusive “phantom” first appeared on the D4 in 2019.
Police located the vehicle at the time but could not take action because the driver wore a helmet, preventing them from proving who was behind the wheel.
Two supporting vehicles consistently appear whenever the formula is on public roads. Similar tactics have been observed in past incidents in 2019 and 2023.
The cars are similar to tactics seen in street racing abroad, where drivers use other vehicles to block traffic and help the main car get away from police.
The Formula car is not designed for street use. It lacks license plates, headlights, turn signals, and other safety features required for road operation.
Authorities have warned that such vehicles pose a serious risk to both the driver and other road users.
