Four Days, Thousands of Stories: Book World Prague Returns

Richard Golbeck

Hundreds of authors. Thousands of books. Book World Prague 2025 will mark its 30th anniversary this year, taking over the Holešovice Exhibition Grounds.

The event, one of the largest cultural festivals in Czechia, will run across both indoor and outdoor spaces, with the exterior halls named after prominent Czech authors in honor of the country’s literary heritage.

This year’s theme, “30! The Energy of Youth – Wisdom of Books,” reflects both the festival’s legacy and its forward-looking vision. Portugal has been named Guest of Honor, bringing its dynamic literary scene to the Czech capital.

Book World Prague is more than a book fair — it is a meeting point for writers, readers, thinkers, and publishers.

Alongside major Czech names, the festival will welcome international literary voices and highlight the depth of Portuguese storytelling, from Luís de Camões and Fernando Pessoa to José Saramago and rising contemporary authors shaping global narratives.

The local literary scene will be well represented with prose writers, poets, comic creators, and children’s authors. The festival is preparing a rich lineup for young readers and school groups, ensuring that the next generation is equally engaged.

This year’s standout guests include Polish Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk, Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov, Ukrainian author Andrej Kurkov, and American novelist Sam Holland.

The fair continues to highlight literature as a force for freedom through the Jiří Theiner Award, which this year will be presented to Algerian writer Boualem Sansal for his contributions to the defense of free expression.
