Joy Comes Back: One-Day Exhibition Explores Body, Identity, and Self-Acceptance

Prague Morning

A new one-day exhibition in Prague will invite visitors into a personal world of body image, identity, and self-acceptance.

On April 18, artist Mench will present Joy Comes Back at Viadukt Karlín’s Oblouk 36, a vaulted space inside the historic viaduct in Prague 8. The exhibition will run for one day only, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The show brings together paintings created over the past three years. According to the artist, the works reflect an emotional journey from inner chaos and uncertainty to moments of calm, acceptance, and personal growth.

Rather than following a straight story, the paintings move through themes such as vulnerability, intimacy, connection, and self-perception. Together, they explore how people see themselves, how they relate to their bodies, and how difficult periods can sometimes lead to change.

At the center of the exhibition is the human body. Nudity appears throughout the paintings, not as decoration, but as a way of expressing honesty and emotion. The main message behind the exhibition is simple: joy does not stay forever, but it always finds its way back.

The setting also plays an important role. Oblouk 36 combines the raw structure of the old viaduct with a modern gallery atmosphere, creating a close and personal experience between the visitor and the artwork.

Visitors will also be encouraged to take part in the exhibition. Interactive elements throughout the space will allow guests to leave small contributions, such as naming an untitled painting or writing a note for the next visitor.

During the event, people will have the chance to meet Mench, hear the stories behind the paintings, and reserve or purchase artworks that speak to them. A welcome drink and light refreshments will also be available.

At the end of the day, one visitor will win an original painting.

The exhibition takes place on April 18, 2026, from 13:00 to 19:00 at Viadukt Karlín – Oblouk 36, Prvního pluku 205/23, Prague 8. Entry is free, but capacity is limited, so advance registration is recommended.
