Reminder: Lítačka Cards from 2016 Must Be Replaced Next Year
Prague Morning
Passengers using Lítačka cards issued in 2016 will have to replace them next year, as Prague’s transport authorities confirmed that these cards will no longer receive another validity extension.
The cards had already been extended twice in recent years by the organizer of Prague Integrated Transport, ROPID, but their lifecycle now officially ends.
Although many riders still rely on these older cards, the date printed on them may not reflect their true validity. Because extensions were granted automatically, the original expiration date—typically set for 2020—is the key indicator. If that was the date on the card, it is now part of the group that must be replaced.
ROPID advises passengers to check the updated validity online or at any contact point. The expiration can be viewed in the Lítačka mobile app under the My Coupons section or after logging into the official website in the My Identifiers tab.
Once the extended validity ends, the card can no longer be renewed. A new card must be issued, and passengers can choose between an in-person process or an online request.
For those visiting a branch in person, applicants need to present an ID, the original Lítačka card, and a color ID photo. Some locations take the photo on site, and previously submitted photos may still be used if considered current.
Applications can be filed at the customer center in Škoda Palace, as well as at several Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) sales points throughout the metro network. In total, eleven locations across Prague handle the exchange, while fourteen points in the Central Bohemian Region issue cards during the visit. Škoda Palace and selected DPP branches also offer express issuance.

Passengers who prefer not to queue can submit the request online through the official Lítačka website or app. The online application requires a digital photo, the number of the expiring card, and identity verification when picking up the new one. Finished cards can be collected at a chosen contact point or delivered by post.
Fees and Processing Times
The price depends on the chosen method. A standard replacement costs 50 CZK, both in person and online. An express replacement, available only in person, costs 100 CZK. These prices apply specifically to cards expiring due to the end of their extended validity; other types of exchanges cost twice as much, except for online applications, which remain set at 50 CZK. Delivery by post is free.
Although the official processing period is thirty days, most cards are ready within two weeks.
Who Does Not Need to Replace Their Card
Cards issued in 2019, which were previously extended once, will also reach their formal expiration next year. However, their holders will not need to replace them. ROPID announced at the beginning of December that these cards will receive another automatic three-year extension. Cards issued in all other years remain valid without any changes.
