Across Czechia: New Bus Route Connects Connects North and Silesia

Prague Morning

Travel across the Czech Republic has become easier this winter.

A new long-distance bus connection now links regions that were previously separated by complicated transfers, cutting travel time and simplifying journeys between northern Bohemia, eastern Bohemia and Silesia.

Since December, FlixBus has been operating a renewed domestic service that runs across the country from Teplice to Havířov.

The line, officially marked as route 855, connects areas that until now had no direct public transport link. For the first time, passengers can travel between the Podkrušnohoří region and Silesia on a single bus, without changing vehicles in Prague or Ostrava.

The route passes through Prague, Hradec Králové, Jeseník and Opava before reaching the industrial towns of the Moravian-Silesian region.

For residents of northern Bohemia, it opens a straightforward connection to Jeseníky and the Ostrava area. For people in eastern Bohemia and Silesia, it finally means direct access to Teplice and the north-west without planning around multiple transfers.

According to FlixBus, the new line is part of a broader strategy to improve links between smaller towns and major transport hubs.

Zdeněk Tesárek, the company’s commercial director for the Czech Republic, said in a statement that expanding services beyond the largest cities remains a priority, especially for communities with fewer than 20,000 residents. Prague and Ostrava continue to serve as key interchange points, but the aim is to reduce unnecessary complexity for domestic travelers.

Route 855 runs every day and was introduced as part of the winter timetable change in December. On weekdays, the bus leaves Teplice at 9:50 a.m., stops at Prague’s Florenc station at 11:20 a.m., and reaches Hradec Králové shortly after 1:25 p.m.

From there, it continues to Jeseník, Opava and finally Havířov, where it arrives in the early evening. Weekend departures follow the same route, with times shifted slightly earlier.

The return service starts in Havířov just after 8 a.m., travels back through Jeseník and Hradec Králové, reaches Prague in the mid-afternoon and ends in Teplice before evening. The consistent daily schedule makes the line practical not only for leisure travel but also for students and workers who move regularly between regions.

For many passengers, the change is less about speed and more about simplicity. Until now, journeys between northern Bohemia and Silesia almost always required at least one transfer, often two. Missed connections and long waiting times were common.
