No Signal Again? O2 Suffers Third Mobile Outage in a Week

For the third time in a single week, customers of mobile operator O2 have faced widespread service outages, with both mobile internet and voice calls failing across the country.

The outage began shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Friday, according to DownDetector and Vypadky24, platforms that track technical disruptions of major digital services.

From Prague to Ostrava, and from Brno to Liberec, users reported being unable to make phone calls or access mobile data. By mid-morning, Vypadky24 had registered over 700 outage reports, making this the most serious incident since the week’s earlier disruptions.

Interestingly, some users noticed inconsistencies in coverage even within the same household. One phone would operate normally, while another—connected to the same O2 network—couldn’t establish a signal at all.

O2’s technical troubles began Monday, when users across the country experienced similar issues. At the time, O2 spokesperson Petra Yavornytska blamed the outage on a software error in the central part of the network.

On Thursday, another disruption occurred, impacting voice services and mobile data for many customers.

As of now, it’s uncertain if the latest failure is connected to ongoing repairs or if it signals a deeper structural problem within O2’s infrastructure. The company has only said it is “working with suppliers on preventive measures to avoid similar disruptions in the future.”

Some users have been able to temporarily restore service by restarting their mobile devices, a workaround also recommended during the earlier outages.

O2 Offers Compensation After Monday’s Disruption

In response to mounting frustration, O2 announced it would offer affected users a 300 CZK voucher for purchasing mobile phones or accessories as compensation for the Monday outage.

The company has not yet said whether additional compensation will be offered for the Thursday or Friday outages.
