Ukrainian Flags and Graffiti Appear Around Tomio Okamura's Home
Prague Morning
Ukrainian flags have appeared around the residence of Tomio Okamura, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and leader of the SPD party, in Břevnov, Prague.
Unknown individuals also spray-painted Ukrainian flags on the sidewalk, street lamps, and other public surfaces in the neighborhood.
The incident occurred on Monday, November 17, with multiple flags attached to the fence of Okamura’s house on Nad Tejnkou Street. Spray-painted symbols in blue and yellow were reported on nearby street lamps, steps, and even a trash can.
Police are investigating the incident. “We received a report about Ukrainian flags being hung on a fence. Additionally, someone spray-painted them on sidewalks, street lamps, and other objects in the area. We will document the situation and assess whether any damage occurred,” police spokesman Jan Daněk.
Okamura attributed the act to pro-Ukrainian activists marking the Czech national holiday of November 17. He stressed that he is not pursuing the matter legally, as the spray-painting occurred in public spaces rather than on his private property.
The group behind the action, Velvet Memories, claimed responsibility for hanging the flags.

This incident comes shortly after Okamura removed the Ukrainian flag from the Chamber of Deputies building following his election as Speaker. Okamura personally held the stepladder during the removal.
The flag had been displayed at the seat of the lower chamber since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, symbolizing solidarity with the country. The act was criticized by members of the outgoing government and the Pirate Party, who called it shameful and cowardly.
