As early as September, Popeyes, an American chain of fast food restaurants selling fried chicken, will open its first restaurant in the Czech Republic.
By the end of the year, two more branches will be opened – in addition to the first one in the center of Prague, one will be added in the center of Brno, and another location will open just outside Prague.
This will create strong competition for the three biggest chains in the Czech Republic – KFC, McDonald’s, and Burger King.
The first Czech customers will welcome Popeyes with a location in Wenceslas Square, but the exact address is still being kept secret by the company. However, according to Marek Blažević, who is in charge of the brand in the Czech Republic and Poland, it will be a two-story, 700 sqm restaurant in the heart of the city.
“We deliberately chose Wenceslas Square. It is the place where all the important events take place – Christmas or Easter markets, museum night, and other public events. Without exaggeration, I expect it to be the busiest Popeyes restaurant in the world,” says Blažević.
“The first three customers in line will receive vouchers for a free chicken sandwich for a whole year. The next 100 customers will then get a free chicken sandwich,” Blažević says, adding tha it is the most popular product, accounting for 40 percent of sales.
“I can already confirm that a drive-thru restaurant with the option of ordering from a car will be built just outside Prague, which is unique. It often takes two years to build such a restaurant on a green field, but we have found one interesting project that we will be able to open this year,” reveals Blažević.
The first branches, both in Prague and Brno, will also offer Popeyes delivery service via online ordering. “We have entered into an exclusive partnership with Wolt, so from the launch we will be delivering food through their service to home and work. We want to focus on the restaurant so that the food is well prepared and we leave the delivery to the experts who know their stuff,” Blažević adds.
Popeyes operates nearly 4,000 restaurants worldwide and has been owned by multinational fast food holding company
Restaurant Brands International along with the Burger King chain since 2017. The holding company bought Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen for $1.8 billion (39 billion crowns) at the time.
