Prague to Install 1,500 Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles (EVs)
Prague Morning
Prague is set to launch one of its most ambitious infrastructure projects in recent years – the installation of 1,500 public charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs).
The rollout will focus on slow-charging points placed in residential areas, allowing drivers to conveniently charge overnight on city streets.
The project is estimated to cost nearly CZK 493 million and will be fully financed from the city budget. All charging stations will remain under municipal ownership.
Zdeněk Hřib, Prague’s First Deputy Mayor for Transport, emphasized that public infrastructure is essential for the city’s transition to clean mobility.
“Without accessible charging options, electromobility will remain the privilege of a small group. Prague must ensure that every resident has the opportunity to make the switch,” he said.
By expanding charging infrastructure, Prague hopes to cut greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and reduce traffic noise.
According to Hřib, “This is a concrete step toward a cleaner, healthier city. Investing in emission-free mobility makes sense from ecological, economic, and social perspectives.”
The new network will be integrated into Prague’s broader strategy for sustainable urban mobility.
The city has committed to supporting a carbon-neutral future, with the EV project serving as a cornerstone of that effort. Officials say the charging rollout will place Prague among the leaders of urban electromobility in Europe, while directly improving conditions for residents.
The first stations are expected to appear within the next few years, with gradual expansion across the city’s districts.
Once completed, Prague’s charging infrastructure will cover both central neighborhoods and outer boroughs, creating a citywide network designed for long-term growth in electric mobility.
