Prague Shakespeare Company Brings "Venus in Fur" Back on February 14
Prague Morning

The Prague Shakespeare Companyโs popular play โVenus in Furโ is making a one-night-only return to the Estates Theater this Valentineโs Day, February 14.
Written by David Ives, the play delves into the blurred boundaries between fantasy and reality, power dynamics, and the complexities of desire. Itโs a chance to see a compelling story brought to life in one of Pragueโs most historic venues.
The plot follows a mysterious actress, Vanda, as she auditions for Thomas, a demanding director adapting the erotic novel Venus in Furs. What begins as a simple audition quickly transforms into a battle of wills, with themes of dominance and submission taking center stage.
The performance stars internationally recognized actors Jessica Boone and Guy Roberts, who share undeniable chemistry on stage.
Boone, known for her roles in both theater and television (The Wheel of Time fans might recognize her as Alwhin), spoke about the challenge of portraying Vandaโs multifaceted character. โSheโs quick, unpredictable, and full of contrasts,โ Boone said. โOne moment sheโs playful and seductive, the next fiercely intelligent and commanding. Itโs thrilling to dive into her layers and explore the vulnerability beneath her confidence.โ
This production also carries a personal touch, as Boone is directed by her husband, Guy Roberts. When asked about working together, Boone admitted itโs an intense process. โItโs meta, for sure,โ she said with a laugh. โWe challenge each other, sometimes in ways only a couple could. There are moments of fireworksโboth the beautiful kind and the kind that leave you a little burned.โ
The play doesnโt shy away from tackling big themes like power, gender, and sexuality. Boone hopes it sparks conversations among the audience. โSo much of our time now is spent glued to screens, watching others live,โ she said. โThis play dares us to examine our own relationships, desires, and the roles we play. Itโs provocative in the best way and stays with you long after the curtain falls.โ
Performing at the Estates Theater adds another layer of significance. Known for its rich history, including hosting the premiere of Mozartโs Don Giovanni, the venue is a special place for Boone. โThereโs something magical about that stage,โ she said. โTo perform there is an honor, and it brings an energy that deepens the intensity of the play.โ
If youโre looking for an engaging and thought-provoking night out this Valentineโs Day, Venus in Fur offers a seductive and intense theatrical experience.
Tickets are limited, so itโs worth planning ahead to catch this one-night performance at one of Pragueโs most iconic theaters.
