Aeroitalia, Italy’s newest private airline venture, is launching a direct air link between Václav Havel Airport Prague and Florence Airport next year.
AeroItalia has today announced the launch of 24 direct flights from Florence and Prague was among the destinations.
The company expects to start up in the Tuscan airport by basing a Boeing 737-700 — a new type in the airline’s fleet — and a wet-leased ATR 72-600.
The company will begin flying between the two cities in summer 2023. The exact schedule is not yet available. Ticket sales have not yet started either.
Prague airport currently has no direct flights to Florence. In the past, only Vueling operated on the route. At the moment, you can reach Pisa from Prague by the low-cost carrier Ryanair.
Aeroitalia was founded in 2022 by a consultant for Italy’s ministry of infrastructure and transport and is backed by a high-net-worth individual from South America who acts as the company’s president.
Aeroitalia launched low-cost flights intended to attract customers to its services and create a buzz.
While it is beginning its life at a time when Italy’s airline sector is up for grabs, following the loss of Alitalia and early days of ITA Airways, it seems Aeroitalia is targeting the low-cost market rather than full service.
With Italy being heavily dominated by low-cost carriers like Ryanair, Aeroitalia initially seems to be targeting unserved markets, such as its route to London Heathrow.
