Ten Tram Lines to Detour from May 31 for Track Work
Prague Morning

Ten tram routes in central Prague will be rerouted between May 31 and June 13 as part of a planned closure near Malostranská metro station.
The disruption, announced by the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP), is necessary to replace aging infrastructure and improve safety.
The affected section—located in one of the busiest transit hubs in the city—will see track replacement works that are expected to last two weeks. Trams will be diverted, and temporary stops will be introduced to maintain service coverage in the area.
Which Lines Are Affected?
Tram lines 2, 12, 15, 17, 18, 20, 22, 23, 42, and night tram 97 will all operate on altered routes during the repair period. Additionally, bus line 194 will also be rerouted to accommodate the track closure.
To assist passengers, temporary tram stops will be set up on both sides of Edvard Beneš Embankment and on Letenská Street. Commuters are advised to follow updated signage and announcements at local tram stations.
A spokesperson for the DPP said the work is part of a broader effort to modernize Prague’s public transportation infrastructure. “The tracks near Malostranská are long overdue for replacement. These upgrades are essential for keeping the network reliable and safe,” they stated.
The last major detour of this scale occurred during maintenance near I. P. Pavlova last year, which also affected several tram lines over a similar timeframe.
For real-time updates and detailed route changes, passengers can visit the official Prague Integrated Transport (PID) website or follow announcements via DPP’s mobile app.
