Prague Event Promotes Sardinia as a Year-Round Travel Destination

Prague Morning

Prague hosted a European tourism workshop focused on promoting Sardinia to international travel markets, bringing together tour operators and buyers from across the continent.

The event, organized by the tour operator Sardegna Travel, aimed to strengthen cooperation between Sardinian tourism businesses and European partners while positioning the island as a destination beyond the traditional summer season.

The gathering marked the fourth edition of the initiative and drew tourism professionals from several countries, including Denmark, Sweden, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Italy. Representatives of Sardinian tourism businesses also attended, meeting directly with travel buyers and agencies interested in expanding their offerings in the Mediterranean destination.

Organizers said the goal was to support direct business relationships between tourism providers on the island and international travel partners. By facilitating these contacts, the workshop sought to encourage travel to Sardinia throughout the year rather than concentrating visits during the peak summer months.

The event took place under the patronage of several institutions, including the Italian Embassy in Prague, the Italian-Czech Chamber of Commerce, the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, and the Autonomous Region of Sardinia. Regional authorities included the workshop in their official program dedicated to promoting tourism on the island.

The timing of the event coincided with increased international attention on Sardinia. The travel guide Lonely Planet recently listed the island among the 25 best destinations worldwide for 2026, placing it at the top among European locations.

Additional recognition has also drawn global interest, including the UNESCO listing of the prehistoric Domus de Janas, the selection of Cala Goloritzé as the world’s most beautiful beach in international rankings, and an international award granted to the Santa Barbara Mining Trail, a long-distance route crossing historic mining areas in southern Sardinia.

Alongside business meetings, the program included a cultural evening dedicated to the Sardinian writer Grazia Deledda, marking one hundred years since she received the Nobel Prize in Literature. Deledda remains the only Italian woman to have won the award.

The evening opened with remarks by Alessandro Gaudiano, Italy’s ambassador to the Czech Republic. Literary scholar Neria De Giovanni, widely known for her research on Deledda’s work, delivered a talk examining the author’s contribution to European literature.

One of the highlights of the event was a staged reading of a monologue from the novel Marianna Sirca. The text, part of the theatrical project Donne di Grazia, was presented in Czech and English translation and performed by Czech actress Lenka Termerová.

Music accompanied the cultural program. Flutist Elisa Ceravola performed live while a silent film about places connected to Deledda’s life and writing was screened. The film material was provided by the Società Umanitaria of Cagliari.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, organizer Antonio Costantino described the broader vision behind the initiative.

“Sardinia is not a place to visit. It is a civilization to be understood,” he said.

The project promoted by Sardegna Travel aims to present the island not only as a seaside destination but as a place where culture, landscape, and local traditions can attract travelers throughout the year. Organizers said long-term cooperation between international travel companies and Sardinian tourism providers will be essential to that effort.
