The legendary screening series with English subtitles is launching its 5th season at Prague’s iconic Aero cinema.

Since 2019, the project has welcomed more than 7,500 viewers, from curious expats to VIP guests like British ambassador Matt Field or Czech actor and director Jiří Mádl.

This year’s opening night on September 25 features The Ride (Jízda) introduced by Janek Rubeš from Honest Guide. Get your tickets here.

Started five years ago by three Czech enthusiasts, Some Like It Czech has become a cultural ritual for Prague’s international community.

Every month, a hand-picked Czech film is screened with English subtitles and a witty introduction by cultural insiders.

The idea? To make sure Czech humor, history, and habits aren’t lost in translation. “Movies are the best shortcut to understanding the Czech soul. We want our audience to get the jokes, the context, the quirks — and to have a great night out,” says one of the organizers Anna Šenfeldová.

This crash course in Czech culture kicks off with The Ride, a 90s road movie by Oscar-winning director Jan Svěrák (watch the trailer)— and a personal favorite of Janek Rubeš, who will be at cinema Aero in person to introduce it.

Known to 1.8 million YouTube followers as the face of Honest Guide, Janek usually warns tourists about scams in Prague. This time, he’ll tell you how not to behave on Czech roads and share the inside jokes Czechs have while driving. Get your tickets.

In the following months, the organizers will bring a mix of classics and cult favorites — from Miloš Forman’s Oscar-nominated satire “The Firemen’s Ball“ to iconic celebration of Czech love for beer and meat “Cutting it Short” based on a novella by Bohumil Hrabal, and comedy “The Holiday Makers”, a subversive comedy set in the ultimate Czech summer destination: Croatia.
