Prague Zoo Sees Its Strongest Attendance in a Decade

Prague Zoo ended last year with 1.45 million visitors, marking its best result in ten years and its strongest performance since the pandemic. Zoo officials say interest was driven largely by young gorillas Mobi and Gaia, who quickly became one of the site’s main attractions. Attendance was also boosted by several new animals, including Achilles, a Sumatran tiger, and Oslo, a South African sea lion. The figures suggest that visitor numbers have returned to pre-pandemic levels.

Prague Public Transport Switches to Semi-Holiday Timetable

Public transport in Prague has entered a semi-holiday operating mode from January 5 to March 1. During this period, intervals for trams, buses, and trolleybuses are longer by around 20 percent. The transport authority says the change reflects a seasonal decline in passenger numbers. Metro services remain unaffected, with trains running at standard intervals.

IKEA Extends Collection of Used Pillows and Textiles

IKEA Czech Republic has prolonged its recycling campaign for used pillows and bedding, which was originally due to end last year. The initiative will now continue until April 30. Customers can return sleep products from any manufacturer and material, as long as they are clean, dry, and packed in bags. The items will be recycled and reused as raw materials. IKEA Family card holders receive a 15 percent discount on selected new sleep products, valid until the end of May both online and in stores.

Ukraine and Moldova Join EU Roaming Zone

From January 1, 2026, Ukraine and Moldova became part of the European roaming zone. The move allows their citizens to use mobile calls, text messages, and mobile internet in EU countries at domestic rates, without additional charges. EU users traveling to Ukraine and Moldova now benefit from the same conditions. The change is seen as a step toward closer integration with European systems.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) will fly to Paris on Tuesday, January 6, where he will take part in a meeting of leaders of the so-called ‘coalition of the willing,’ that is, countries supporting Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. He said this in a video posted today on his social media accounts.
