Žižkov Carnival Returns for Its 31st Year on February 7th

Prague Morning

The traditional Žižkov Carnival is entering its 31st year.

This popular neighborhood celebration will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, and will once again offer a colorful carnival parade, a rich accompanying program for children and adults, theater, music, crafts, and authentic carnival delicacies.

There will also be an original selection of beverages and the opportunity to join in the fun in costume. The carnival parade of masked participants will begin at 4 p.m. on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square.

Participants will begin lining up at 3 p.m., accompanied by the Lovesong Orchestra.

The parade will then proceed via Lucemburská, Bořivojova, Ondříčkova, Lupáčova, Havlíčkovo náměstí, Štítného and Husinecká streets to Radost Park.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., the traditional handover of the key to Žižkov and the symbolic takeover of the district will take place at the Prague 3 City Hall.

The parade will arrive at its destination in Radost Park about ten minutes before 5 p.m. “Carnival celebrations were not organized under communism, and Prague 3 was the first or second district in Prague where the tradition was revived in the 1990s. Today, Carnival is an integral part of Žižkov. It is a celebration of good cheer and neighborly gatherings, but every year it also attracts visitors from all over Prague,” says Michal Vronský, mayor of Prague 3, who will once again take part in the carnival parade in costume.

Radost Park will come alive with carnival activities starting at noon. Food and drink stands will open at 12 noon, and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., visitors will find a small blacksmith’s shop with demonstrations of traditional crafts.

From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., a video corner will be open where visitors can have their pictures taken in their masks. The Apropo Theater has prepared two fairy tales with animals for children. After the parade arrives at Radost Park, there will be a final show by Vosa Theatre and an announcement of the most interesting masks.

The program will conclude with a concert by the band Trombenik, combined with the traditional burial of the bass. On Shrove Tuesday, the Prague 3 Information Center will offer Shrove Tuesday-themed art workshops for children.

Special animal masks will also be available for anyone interested in wearing a mask. “The carnival atmosphere will be complemented by events organized at our two cultural centers, KC Vozovna and Atrium Žižkov, which will take place in the days leading up to the carnival itself. On Wednesday, January 28, KC Vozovna will host Theater Fragments with a carnival theme, and on Sunday, February 1, Atrium Žižkov will hold carnival workshops for children with artist kosmo_nauty,” adds Pavel Křeček, Prague 3 Councilor for Culture.

Visitors can look forward to a wide range of traditional carnival delicacies – doughnuts, cheeses, crackling specialties, langos, jitrnice (a type of sausage), and other meat products.

This year’s carnival specials will include amber lager from the SQBRU brewery and raspberry and strawberry-mint lemonade from Chmelbucha.

Those interested can follow the latest information about the event on the Žižkovský masopust Facebook profile.
