The Socks from Grandma (Ponožky od babičky) brand was founded by the non-profit organization Elpida. This organization helps seniors since 2002 be a respectful and meaningful part of our society.
They also run the Elpida Educational and Cultural Center for seniors from all over Prague and the Help Line for Seniors.
Socks are knitted by more than 200 grandmothers from all over the Czech Republic – so each sock is original. Each pair is knit by a specific grandmother, whose name appears on the cover of each pair of socks.
Elpida supports recycling, that is why socks are knitted from donated wool and send to knitters, who knit original warm socks and receive a fee for them. You can buy socks in their e-shop, in markets, or through contracted sellers. By selling socks they also raise money for other activities in the Elpida Center.
One pair of socks costs 299 crowns. Your money will help them three times. It will support lonely seniors, grandmothers who have knitted socks, as well as educational and cultural activities for seniors at the Elpida Center.
Socks from these grandmothers will make a great meaningful gift for Christmas to your loved ones.
