CZECH REPUBLIC

• The average gross monthly nominal wage per recalculated number of employees in the national economy grew 11.3% y/y in the second quarter of 2021. It was 8.2% higher in real numbers. The median amounted to CZK 32,408. The highest pace of increase was recorded in health and social care (43.8%), affected by the payment of extra bonuses for work during the pandemic.

• Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban backed his Czech counterpart Andrej Babis’ re-election bid on Wednesday. “We in Hungary are ready to maintain close, friendly, sober cooperation with Andrej Babis’s government,” said Orban, whose right-wing Fidesz party has governed Hungary since 2010.

• The police have shelved the case of a racist banner posted online after the March football match between Slavia Prague and Glasgow Rangers that vulgarly abused Glen Kamara, a Rangers midfielder, as they did not find the man who did it. If new information surfaces that may track down the perpetrator, the case will be reopened.

• North Korea has claimed that it successfully tested a new hypersonic missile called Hwasong-8 on Tuesday. State media said the new missile was one of the “five most important” new weapons systems laid out in its five-year military development plan.
