Czech Nonsense: Unvaccinated Hospitality Staff to Check Vaccinated Guests

As of November 1, restaurant staff must ask guests to present their vaccination certificate, otherwise, the owners of the business could face heavy fines.

Anyone who does not present it will not even receive water.

However, rather ridiculously it is estimated that up to half of the hospitality staff have rejected the vaccine. So, unvaccinated staff will essentially be checking vaccinated guests as no one will force them to be vaccinated.

The immunization of waitresses and waiters seems to be low in most restaurants and cafes. The vast majority are young and carefree people, who do not seem to be afraid of COVID at all.

Some business owners have also complained that they should have no leverage to force their staff to be vaccinated.

However, the new Czech measure follows from models that have already been applied in countries like Italy, for example, since June. And, it seems to have helped in forcing people to get vaccinated.

Anyone who couldn’t stand being without a morning espresso from a coffee shop eventually gave in and ended up on the waiting list in the vaccination center.

But if an establishment wants vaccinated guests, shouldn’t their staff lead by example? It seems ridiculous that they do not have to act in solidarity with vaccinated regulars- especially since it is often impossible to know if you are infected with the virus.
