The number of Czech inhabitants rose by 9,000 to 10.256 million in the first six months of the year thanks to migration from abroad. However, this number does not include the Ukrainians with Czech temporary protection visas, preliminary data released by the Czech Statistical Office on Monday show.

Petr Vaclav’s film Il Boemo about 18th-century Czech composer Josef Myslivecek will compete for the Academy Award for the best foreign-language film as the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) nominated it. The film will have its world premiere in the main competition of the San Sebastian festival that starts on Friday.

The new Covid-19 vaccines may be sought as a booster jab at 54 places in Czechia for the time being and further places will gradually join in, Deputy Health Minister Josef Pavlovic said on Monday, adding that Czechia will receive 700,000 doses a week. The list of the places where the new vaccines are available can be found on the Health Ministry’s website.

The Czech police drug squad has uncovered a methamphetamine laboratory near Cheb, involving an organised criminal group of dealers and producing hundreds of kilograms of the drug. Four people have been arrested in connection with the case and they face up to 12 years in prison.
