Come Soak Up Some Revolutionary Atmosphere with the Movie HAVEL 

Truth and love will overcome lies and hatred. Sound too corny? No, the words of the former first Czech president are truer than ever.

Come to the cinema Aero on the eve of the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, czexperience the revolutionary drama HAVEL set in a time when fighting for freedom was the order of the day.

On the 16th of November, as part of the “Some like it Czech” screening series, which aims to introduce Czech culture and history to expats living in Prague, you can attend a screening of the movie HAVEL (2020, watch the trailer).

The latest movie by Czech director Slávek Horák will show you the breathtaking transformation of a timid playwright into a determined and fearless revolutionary and later a global icon.

Set between 1968 and 1989 you can finally get to know Czechoslovakia under socialism with this movie drama based on real events.

Brian Lennon, a charming man from L.A. who has one short film debut to his credit, will give you a fun introduction before the movie. In an entertaining way without any spoilers, you will discover why the year 1968 is so important for the Czechs.

With Brian, you will finally find out what Charter 77 was and maybe some foreign words like normalization will no longer be that foreign anymore. You will also be introduced to some important personalities such as a Slovak politician and the main protagonist of Prague Springs Alexander Dubček, Havel’s spouse Olga Havlová or a philosopher and resistance fighter Jan Patočka.

The film will also show some brilliant elements of the underground movement, which was undoubtedly a rock band The Plastic People of the Universe, and their “manager” Martin Jirous aka Magor.

What else to expect? Besides the movie with English subtitles, there will be networking activities after the screening with a cheeky reward for those who participate. *wink wink* Come and meet other expats, foreign exchange students, or even Czech film enthusiasts who regularly visit the screening series or chat directly with the founders of the project about everything and anything that has to do with the Czech Republic and its culture.

You can also taste the 20th century by drinking “BETON” aka the signature drink of the evening.
