- President Petr Pavel says he will sign into law a government bill under which the indexation of state old-age pensions will be reduced in June. “Supporting the bill had not been an easy decision, but in the current circumstances there was no good solution that would work for everybody,” he said.
- Production of passenger cars in Czechia rose by 26.2 percent year-on-year to over 215,000 vehicles in January and February, according to data released on Wednesday by the Association of the Automotive Industry.
- Czechia’s postal service plans to lay off several thousand employees this year due to declining interest in its services, the company’s director Miroslav Štěpán told the news website Seznam Zprávy on Wednesday. He also confirmed a previously announced plan to close some 300 branches of the postal service.
- A new weight loss medication, Wegovy, will be available in the Czech Republic soon. The drug is highly effective in clinical trials, with patients losing an average of 15% of their body weight. However, insurance companies will not cover the cost of the medication, which is expected to be around CZK 1,300 per injection.

Czech president Petr Pavel concluded his two-day visit to Slovakia on Tuesday. Over the past two days, the Czech head of state held talks with his Slovak counterpart Zuzana Čaputová, Prime Minister Eduard Heger and the head of the Slovak Parliament Boris Kollár. Among other things, they discussed the war in Ukraine, ways to counter disinformation and closer cooperation in the defence industry.
