Green Rock Management Group: Pioneering Sustainable Development and Championing Gender Equality in Armenia
Green Rock Management Group, an emerging leader in large-scale territorial development projects based in Armenia, announced its various successful initiatives and commitments to economic growth, cultural preservation, and gender equality.
Founded just a year ago, Green Rock Management Group has rapidly established itself as a transformative force in Armenia’s development landscape. The company’s mission is to transform territories into centers of opportunity, ensuring economic growth while preserving local culture and environment.
Among its notable projects, the renovation and reopening of Dilijan’s sports school in December last year stands out as a testament to their commitment to community development.
The company is also excited about upcoming projects including the construction of a multi-functional hotel complex, the reconstruction of Aghasi Khanjyan’s summer house, and the renovation of the former National Security Rest House in Dilijan, which will be repurposed as a vibrant entertainment venue.
Additionally, they are planning to rebuild the fourth section of the Yerevan circular park in accordance with the historic Tamanyan project.
We met Mane Babajanyan, Project Manager at Green Rock Management Group, discussing her career path, the workplace environment, and perspectives on gender equality.
- What led you to join Green Rock Management Group, and what role did you start with at the company?
I joined Green Rock Management Group during its early stages, and I’m proud to have been a part of this continuous journey. Joining as a Project Coordinator, I quickly found myself immersed in the dynamic atmosphere of a startup. With just four of us at the beginning and a single project to manage, we still faced many challenges. However, being a part of this environment of constant evolution and innovation fueled my passion for our mission.
As the company grew, so did my role. Within a few months, I was promoted to Project Manager, tasked with managing two of the company’s ongoing projects. Despite the inevitable ups and downs, I am grateful to Green Rock for the trust and the opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Today, I’m thrilled to see how far we’ve come. With a dedicated team of 25 individuals and a diverse portfolio of projects spanning beyond Armenia’s borders, Green Rock has truly established itself as a competitive force in the industry.
- Could you provide an overview of Green Rock Management Group, including the projects you’re involved in and your role within the company?
Green Rock Management Group spearheads diverse projects in Armenia, spanning economic, social, and environmental initiatives. From developing complexes like the Dilijan multifunctional space to restoring historic sites and establishing urban hubs, the group is actively shaping communities. Additionally, we’ve introduced social endeavors such as providing eco-friendly transportation and enhancing city aesthetics through rebranding efforts.
One of my ongoing projects is the reconstruction of a historic villa with a unique architecture hidden in the woods of Dilijan; we plan to create a coworking space and a community of residents that are focused on tourism and development of the region.
Another exciting project that I’m in charge of is our first one outside of Armenia. It’s a high-class apartment complex located in Miami, United States. Our company is responsible for creating a visual identity for this project, for the recruitment, and other components vital for its successful implementation.
- Your path to becoming a Project Manager is inspiring. How do you guide and support women in your team aiming for professional advancement?
As someone who’s climbed up the career ladder at Green Rock, I’m passionate about paying it forward and helping others succeed. Whether it’s offering advice over a coffee or sharing my own career fails (there have been a few!), I’m committed to being a supportive mentor. Seeing the women in my team grow professionally is the best reward anyone could ask for.
- Could you elaborate on how you’ve turned challenges into opportunities to enhance projects at Green Rock Management Group?
In my experience, challenges often present opportunities for growth and innovation. On the other hand, turning challenges into opportunities isn’t always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact of thinking outside the box.
For instance, when faced with gender disparities in project teams, I strive to advocate for diverse representation and inclusive decision-making processes. By encouraging open dialogue and collaboration, we were able to discover the unique perspectives and talents of all team members, leading to more creative solutions and successful project outcomes.
- How does Green Rock Management Group promote the professional growth of women, and could you share examples of how you’ve personally contributed to or benefited from these efforts?
“Green Rock Management Group”’s strategy prioritizes continuous learning and development, supporting individuals dedicated to honing their skills. Our team members undergo training in prominent locations such as Berlin, London, and Singapore, returning with valuable expertise to enrich Armenia’s landscape. For example, at Green Rock we currently have two professionals, one female and one male, undergoing certification. Upon completion, they will join the select few in Armenia with green certification, enabling us to spearhead sustainable development in our construction projects.
Currently, I’m seeking a program to enhance my knowledge and skills. The opportunity to acquire new knowledge is among the most valuable opportunities an employer can offer.
- Creating a supportive and inclusive environment is crucial. What are your secrets to building such an environment within your teams at Green Rock Management Group?
One of the key strategies I’ve found effective is promoting open communication and mutual respect among team members. By actively listening to diverse perspectives and valuing everyone’s contributions, we create a culture where everyone feels heard, respected, and empowered to succeed.
- Reflecting on your career, how has the focus on equality and empowerment influenced your personal growth and leadership style?
Equality and empowerment, the invaluable support received especially from my female fellow colleagues, has been a big part of my career journey. Dealing with challenges and learning from them has helped me grow. And let’s be honest, keeping a positive attitude and being humble have been key in making things better for everyone.
- What advice would you offer to fellow project coordinators at Green Rock Management Group on embedding principles of equality and empowerment into their work? Are there lessons from your journey that you think could inspire others?
To my fellow project managers at Green Rock, here’s what I’ve learned: embrace the ups and downs, be kind to yourself, and always have some chocolate on standby for emergencies. We’re all in this together, so let’s support each other and keep making our workplace better for everyone.
- How has Green Rock Management Group embraced the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles initiative, and how has this involvement influenced the company’s policies and practices regarding gender equality?
Before joining the initiative on April 4th, Green Rock had already prioritized gender equality and inclusivity, evident in the predominance of female managers selected based on merit. However, joining the initiative has further strengthened our company’s commitment. We are currently refining our policies to align more closely with the seven principles advocated by UN Women’s Empowerment Principles. This dedication is not only shaping our company culture but also serving as a beacon of progress within our industry.
