The Vltava River in Prague has reached the first level of flood activity today due to heavy rains.
As a result, the flood gates at ÄŒertovka and parts of the embankments are being closed. The cycle path in Zbraslav will also be shut down, and ferry operations are suspended.
On Monday morning, the Prague City Flood Authority convened again due to the unpredictable weather. The Vltava Cascade, especially the OrlÃk River, is receiving a significant amount of water.
“Effective immediately, parts of the embankments on HoÅ™ejÅ¡Ã nábÅ™ežà between Palacký Bridge and Jirásek Bridge, and the southern part of RaÅ¡Ãn’s Embankment are closed. The cycle path between the Závodu mÃru bridge in Zbraslav and Vraný nad Vltavou is also closed. Ferry operations in Prague are suspended,” said municipal spokesman VÃt Hofman.
Prague authorities advise those near the Vltava River to stay vigilant and monitor the situation closely. They recommend against parking vehicles on the embankments, as these may need to be moved quickly if conditions worsen.
“The weather’s development is unpredictable, and parked vehicles could hinder further measures,” the spokesman noted.
“All measures are precautionary to protect residents and tourists in the city. We will continue to monitor the weather and river levels, and take further actions if necessary,” he added.
