Problems at Prague Airport Due to Major Global IT Outage

Prague Airport is facing issues again. On Friday, July 19, the global check-in system used by several airlines failed, causing some flight delays.

However, affected flights at Prague Airport are being processed using an alternative system or manually. Departures to Amsterdam and Zurich have been suspended.

Prague Airport announced the situation on the social network X. The computer system failure is affecting airports worldwide, including those in Europe, the United States, and Australia. Some airports have even temporarily halted operations.

“EasyJet flights from Prague to Amsterdam and Swiss flights to Zurich have been suspended due to a global system outage, which is beyond Prague Airport’s control. Passengers are asked to be patient as there may be delays and slower check-in times. Affected carriers are managing the situation with alternative methods,” said the spokeswoman Klára Divíšková.

“It will be delayed, but hopefully, I will leave today,” said a passenger named Nikola in Terminal 2. The words “delay” and “delayed” were frequently heard from the crowds. Despite the delays, the check-in halls seemed normal, with only a few warnings about canceled flights on the information boards. Groups of people waited longer than planned.

Airports, banks, hospitals, media outlets, and businesses around the world ground to a halt on Friday as a result of the same worldwide IT services outage, which also impacted global customers of Microsoft’s Azure and Office365 services.

Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity firm with thousands of customers globally, admitted that a defect in a software update had caused the outage, according to Euronews Next.
