According to the CBI, Europeans consume more coffee than every other continent in the world. But where in Europe is the most coffee-obsessed?
To find out, Selecta analysed different datasets including price of daily coffee cost against daily wage, reviews of coffee shops, amount of coffee shops and import of coffee per person. These were then attributed a score from 1 to 10 and averaged out to find which major city in Europe was the best for coffee lovers.
Of the 89 cities analyzed, Edinburgh, Scotland ranks first overall (5.81), with Amsterdam, Netherlands (5.71), Florence, Italy (5.4), Dublin, Ireland (5.31) and Antwerp, Belgium (5.21) rounding the top five cities.
Using data from TripAdvisor, Google, and Eurostat, Selecta found the top 10 European cities for coffee lovers are

- Bologna
- Prague
- Lisbon
Selecta used data points such as price of coffee, quality and quantity of coffee shops, coffee shops with free Wi-Fi, and coffee imports by country.
Although, all Italian cities analysed featured in the top 10 for ‘Price of coffee vs daily wage’. Zurich, Switzerland, came out on top with a coffee costing just 2.47% of a persons daily average wage.

Focusing on the quality of coffee shop in each city, Selecta found out where in Europe had the best average rated coffee shops. Two Romanian cities, Cluj-Napoca (10) and Bucharest (9.64), topped the list with the best average reviews of their coffee shops.

For the consumption of coffee, only 3 countries had more than 10kg per person – Belgium, Germany, and Finland. Belgians consume the most amount of coffee with 24.2kg per person.
The top coffee consuming nation in Europe was Belgium with 24.2kg of coffee being consumed per person.
