We’ve carefully researched the gastronomic newcomers for you and have selected the best seven representatives. Should we get started?
A slice of British elegance is hidden in Prague’s Vršovice. Here, under the watchful eye of Her Majesty, you can indulge in a traditional English breakfast every morning, with a simple three-egg omelet with cheddar, or, if you prefer something “lighter”, cereal topped with yogurt.
You can also stop by for an afternoon “Earl Grey” with a homemade dessert from the weekly menu, or in the evening for a glass of premium gin or a London ale.
A new addition to the “Kro family” is the Kro bistro & bar, which opened in Karlín in June. The relaxed summer atmosphere is best enjoyed in their garden with one of their signature drinks in hand and grilled chicken on a plate.
Of course, that’s not the only thing they offer here, but to study their menu carefully, we recommend you go there and explore it personally.

‘We brought Mochi to Europe and began to fine-tune age-old recipes, processes and flavours. It took years to find the perfect balance for the smoothness of the ice cream, the texture of the dough and the ideal ratio of the two ingredients,’ emphasizes the owner.

According to the Association of Restaurateurs (APRON), the condition of submitting a test to a guest in the front garden is not feasible. There is no legislative support for it either.
On Monday, the government decided that catering establishments will be allowed to let guests into the open air from May 17.
A maximum of four people will be able to sit at the table unless they are members of one household. The space between the tables will have to be at least 1.5 meters; they should be the same distance from passers-by if the garden, for example, is not separated from the sidewalk by a barrier.
Guests will need to have a negative coronavirus test at entry. They will be allowed to use any type of test: from the sampling center, employment.
According to the Minister of Industry and Trade, Karel Havlíček (ANO), they will also bring their own self-test and test themselves on site.
According to Kateřina Holnová from APRON, the government’s decision in the case of tests does not correspond to what the representatives of entrepreneurs tried to convince the Ministry of Health during the negotiations.
APRON has a legal analysis: A restaurateur cannot require a negative test from a customer, only for proof of age, she said. “We cannot break the law, nor can we guarantee that people have a negative test. The government has issued an impracticable order, ” concluded Holnová.
Another problem is that gardens can have more entrances. People come to them freely, and it would still be challenging to regulate their movement and control tests.
Holnová also pointed out that as long as the government restricts the operation of catering operations in any way, entrepreneurs must be able to claim compensation.
On Monday, May 10, all closed shops and several services can reopen after a few months of closure. Now, people buy clothes, electronics, or go for a massage.
Services include shoe repair shops, car bazaars, car showrooms, cable cars, solariums, watchmakers, goldsmiths, carpenters and travel agencies.
The reopening of shops takes place with strict hygiene measures remaining in place, including the ratio of one customer per 15 sq.m., and mandatory respirators and two-meter distancing.
According to the Minister of Health, Petr Arenberger (ANO), if the number of infected people continues to decline, the opening of other services could be accelerated.
This will be followed on May 17th by the reopening of outside areas of pubs and restaurants, as well as hotels and accommodation providers, which will be allowed up to 25% capacity of guests.
The Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants also announced that it would lodge a complaint at the Supreme Administrative Court to overturn the “discriminatory” measures. The association is particularly angry at the 25% limit on hotel capacity.
The easing of measures is based on the number of newly infected in the course of a week staying below 100 per 100,000 inhabitants.
As of Monday people will no longer have to wear respirators out in the open, unless they are in crowded places, although they remain compulsory indoors.
Once-a-week testing will continue to be mandatory in workplaces until the end of June. According to the Minister of Industry and Trade, Karel Havlíček, as long as some business activities are suspended or significantly restricted by anti-epidemic measures, the state will provide support, even though the cabinet has not yet approved the extension of compensatory bonuses for the self-employed.

According to ČTK, the pilot concert Chance for Culture, which will take place on the 11th of May at the Křižíkova Fontána at the Prague Exhibition Grounds, plan to attend up to 2,500 spectators.
The Chinaski group, violin virtuoso Pavel Šporcl and guests will perform at the event held during the dismantling of measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The concert is organized with the official support of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The aim is to show that concerts are a safe place if all the recommended precautions are followed. Therefore, viewers must prove that they were vaccinated more than 14 days ago or have a negative PCR result (up to 72 hours) or antigen tests (up to 48 hours) from a professional laboratory.
The last option is a written confirmation from the doctor that they had COVID-19 a maximum of 90 days before the date of the concert. Limited testing will also be available on site. The organizers reserve the right to perform a random antigen test on the spot in case of doubt about his/her health.
“Together with Chinaski, Pavel Šporcel, and other artists, we want to show that it is normal to go to concerts and that we will be able to enjoy it safely in the summer. I believe that with the help of this event, we will be able to work normally and plan events which our fans used to enjoy,” said Romana Jedličková, founding member of APPOK.
People can book tickets on Ticketlive. The event is not organized for profit, so admission will be free for registered visitors.
Performing artists waived their royalties, and all cooperating companies provided people, materials, and services at their own expense. The organizers decided to dedicate part of the tickets to the concert to paramedics, rescuers, firefighters, and other professions, whom they want to thank for their commitment during the pandemic.
For the next week, other pilot concerts are also planned. On the 10th of May, the Czech Philharmonic will celebrate 125 years since its founding with a show in Dvořák’s Rudolfinum Hall. 350 attendees with valid PCR tests will sit for the first time from October 2020.
The pilot project of the Ministry of Culture included four concerts of the Prague Spring Festival in the presence of the audience, including the opening on May 12th in the Smetana Hall (Municipal House).

More than 600 houses are already involved in the graffiti removal program in Prague 2.
For the eleventh year in a row, the district of Prague 2 has been implementing an anti-graffiti program, reports Pražský Patriot.
In the first three months of this year, 57 houses were cleaned, and more than 319 square meters of graffiti were removed. In total, it is planned to release the consequences of spraying from an area of more than two thousand square meters this year.
In addition to removing graffiti from buildings involved in the Dvojka proti graffiti program, Prague 2 initiated graffiti removal on the stairs in Bělehradská Street, even though they are not owned by the city district.
“In recent times, we turned to the capital to finally solve the spray-painted New Town walls. We have also pushed for graffiti to disappear from the Belgrade Stairs, even though they are owned by the Technical Administration of Roads. Only in 2020, the disposal of graffiti cost the city district more than 410,000 crowns,” says Deputy Mayor Jan Korseska (ODS), who is in charge of the city district’s budget.
“Currently, 651 private and municipal houses are involved in Dvojka proti graffiti, and they will continue to participate in the project,” said Deputy Mayor Alexandra Udženija, the initiator of the program.
Owners of properties located in the Prague 2 can apply for the program. The condition for inclusion is that the house has a repaired plaster.
Proven technology for protection against graffiti is a special modification of the facade, carried out up to a height of three meters. This includes penetration, graffiti removal, facade paint repair, and plaster repair.
Prague 2 would welcome more significant involvement of property owners, the city district said in a press release. All rules and conditions can be found directly on the project website.
We’ve dug out halal restaurants and shops in Prague that are not only known for their good quality food but are wallet-friendly at the same time.
What is halal?
Halal translates to ‘lawful’ or ‘permitted’ in Arabic and is used to describe things that adhere to Islamic law, as defined in the Qur’an. The term can be applied to anything but is most commonly used in reference to food that is permissible to eat, such as meat.
According to the Halal Food Authority, to make meat halal or permissible, an animal or poultry is slaughtered in a ritual known as “Zabihah”. The ritual requires that the animal is healthy at the time of slaughter. The jugular vein, carotid artery and windpipe should also be severed by a razor-sharp knife in a single swipe so as to “incur the least amount of pain as possible”. All blood must be fully drained from the carcass and a prayer must also be said during the slaughter.

It is not a secret that plenty of people can’t wait for a summer vacation. Many Czechs are traditionally going to Croatia, and we have good news for you.
According to tn.cz, people arriving from the European Union or the Schengen area need only an antigen test to enter the country.
Although the situation with coronavirus in Croatia is critical, the country is trying to prepare for the upcoming summer season and accommodate as many tourists as possible.
Travelers who arrive in Croatia from Schengen or European Union and stay there for only 10 days, will be required to show the proof of an antigen test.
In addition, they will not need to undergo extra testing on arrival. “Whether it will work depends on the countries to which they are going to return,” said Croatian Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic.
People who have already had coronavirus or been vaccinated and received at least one dose of the vaccine will also have a benefit. They will not have to show any negative test, and they will not be quarantined.
However, Croatia is currently facing the fifth wave of covid-19, and the spread of the disease is pretty hard to control. More than 2,000 new cases were registered yesterday, and at the end of March, the daily cases remained below a thousand.
Moreover, the country plans to give only one dose of vaccine to people who already had covid-19. According to the local epidemiologist Krunoslav Capak, the second dose has not been proven to affect immunity in any way.
Based on statistics from the Dnevnik.hr, there are 14,507 active cases in the country. Since the pandemic, over 332,000 people were infected, and more than 7,000 people have died from the virus.
