Prague City plans to invest billions in new metro lines, electric buses and other sustainable forms of public transport in the coming years. The construction of metro line D, which connects the north of the city with the south, officially started last week. On Saturday, 2 April, will take place the Czech Republic’s largest volunteer event, Ukliďme Česko (“Let’s Clean Up the Czech Republic”), focusing on cleaning up illegal garbage dumps and other litter from natural areas, towns and villages. Let’s Clean Up The Czech Republic’s purpose is to clean up illegal black dumps and mess. “First, we select places that should be cleaned up, then we manage the whole event and we also actively take part in the cleaning,” said Miroslav Kubásek, from the Ukliďme Česko association. Prague city will install new chargers for electric cars in 82 streetlights during this year, said the councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09). According to the city’s plan, their number is to increase gradually in the future, which is why the municipality plans to replace and modernize more than 600 lamps this year. There are about 135,000 public lighting lamps in Prague. According to the operator of the world’s largest network of these cars, the market for car sharing in the Czech Republic is three times higher than what it used to be. On Monday 17th January, the new Skoda E’ City electric bus from the Skoda Transportation Group went on its first test drive with passengers in Prague. The electric bus will now take test drives mainly on lines 154 and 213 and during weekends also on line 124. Prague is the first city where this new Czech electric bus is in service. Since last October 11, when Prague City launched a free bike-sharing pilot project in cooperation with Rekola and Nextbike, more than 13,000 citizens have activated this option on Lítačka and more than half are active users. “People most often rent bicycles during peak hours, around 7 am in the morning and between 2 pm and 5 pm in the afternoon.
