The Czech Market for Used Electric Cars Expands by 74% Year-on-Year
The used electric car market in the Czech Republic is rapidly growing, signaling that Czechs are increasingly embracing electric vehicles and moving past common myths about their reliability and safety. According to the Centre for Transport Research (CDV), the rise in used EV sales is driven by increasing competition and the fast rollout of new models, which are pushing down prices for older vehicles. Three-year-old electric cars—typically coming off operational leases with valid battery warranties—are in the highest demand. The most sought-after brands include Tesla, BMW, and Volkswagen, with Prague leading in registrations, followed by the Central Bohemian, South Moravian, and Moravian-Silesian regions. In 2024, 3,843 used electric cars in the M1 category were registered in the Czech Republic, marking a 74% year-on-year increase. Tesla dominated the market, accounting for 24.3% of all registrations (935 vehicles), followed by BMW (636), Volkswagen (580), Mercedes (200), Hyundai (193), Škoda (161), and Nissan (155).
