The roof of the Lucerna Palace in central Prague is to be opened to the public this weekend. The rooftop will be open every day from 16:00 to 22:00. Entrance fee – 150 crowns (includes a glass of champagne). The organizers decorated the roof in Easter style and created a lively corner with rams and goats. The whole building carrying distinctive elements of subsiding Art Nouveau and incoming Modernism has been finished in 1921 by Václav Havel (the grandfather of president Václav Havel). History Since the beginning of the construction, social events were planned at the large roof terraces. However, the intent wasn’t realized. Builder Václav Havel passed away within the following year after completion of the construction. His sons Václav M. Havel and Miloš Havel were more focused on building Barrandov Terraces, Barrandov Studios and cinematic industry. Then the war came, then communists and subsequently long dispute about ownership of the Lucerna that was brought to a successful conclusion by madame Dagmar Havlová, a wife of deceased Václav Havel and owner of the palace. New era In 2014, investor Jan Bárta instigated a meeting with madame Havlová at her farm Košík and café owner Ondřej Kobza who was looking...
Like getting around on foot? A new study has figured out the best places for your next trip. It may be a cliché, but the best way to see any city is definitely by foot. No matter the location, walking is often cheaper, less stressful – and much more conducive to the chance encounter. Few pleasures beat diving down a secluded backstreet and discovering a gloriously offbeat restaurant or shop. So it’s a shame so many cities these days appear to have been designed expressly for cars. Helpfully, a new study from hotel chain Motel One has figured out which cities are best for those travellers fond of a good old ramble. It took the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, mapped out their most popular sights, then figured out how long it would take to walk between them. So, which city took the top spot? That would be Bruges in Belgium. The list compilers worked out that you could everything from the historic Begijnhof Bridge to the brilliantly quirky Frietmuseum – which, as you may have guessed, is entirely dedicated to fries – in just 29 minutes. Not bad at all. Next up on the list is Manchester, where a 30-minute walk could take in sights like...

But you can also try typical Czech desserts, such as the caramel cream puff or brandy-filled “špička.” Expect perfectly shaped desserts and quality ingredients. Cukrář Skála in Prague They call themselves a dessert factory. But do not worry, this is not a place of mass production. Only fresh basic ingredients and the skilful hands of confectioners.
