Czech Republic Ranks 15th Best Expat Destination to Live and Work in the World

After a year of lockdowns, many people are looking for a change – whether it’s a temporary move to become a digital nomad or a more permanent change to become an expatriate in a new country. But with so many countries to choose from, deciding on your new home can be daunting. Luckily, expat community organization InterNations have got you covered. They have just published their Expat Insider 2021 Survey which uncovers the best destinations for living and working abroad. The main indices measured in the seventh edition of the survey of more than 12,000 expatriates included quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, personal finance, and cost of living. Respondents also discussed how the Covid-19 pandemic had impacted their life abroad, but these responses did not influence the overall ranking, the report said. The study covers expats’ satisfaction with the quality of life, ease of settling in, working life, personal finance, and the cost of living in their respective countries of residence. The Most-Visited Czech Destinations Revealed

CzechTourism has published a ranking of the country’s most visited attractions in 2020. The list has undergone major changes due to quarantine restrictions, long closures of many facilities and a ban on the entry of tourists. In particular, for the first time in many years, Prague Castle lost its leadership. It was replaced by the Prague funicular, which was used by more than 1 million people. The Prague Zoo ranks second with more than 800 thousand visitors. The third place was taken by the Aquapalace Čestlice water park in the suburbs of Prague. Primark’s Opening Date to be Announced Soon

The Irish fast-fashion retailer Primark has started recruiting staff for its three-floor store on Wenceslas Square against the background of the reopening of retail shops in the Czech Republic. Primark’s Prague branch will become the first one in the country, marking the company’s expansion into the Czech market. In the new Flow Building, Primark will offer a full range of cheap women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories, cosmetics, as well as household goods and confectionery on a total area of 4,700 square meters. Salespeople are invited to start working in the second half of May. Besides, Czech is gradually appearing on the official website of Primark. All Cultural Events Planned to Reappear on August 1, Zaorálek Pushes for Earlier Dates

The Ministry of Health has published a plan for the return of cultural events for this year, with entertainment fully resumed by August 1st. The plan is being heavily criticized by Lubomír Zaorálek, Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic, who considers the proposal to be discriminatory against the cultural sphere. In particular, Zaorálek is not satisfied with the fact PCR tests will be required to enter concerts and other events, whereas antigen tests will suffice when going to a barber, for example. According to the Minister, many people, especially of young age, will be discouraged to attend cultural actions due to the cost of the PCR test, which averages at CZK 1,500. “I don’t want culture to be just for the rich or older people who are inoculated, nor do I want young people to not being able to go to cultural events because they can’t afford it,” Zaorálek said. Wallenstein Garden Reopened to the Public

The Crisis Headquarters of the Czech Senate has decided to reopen the magnificent Wallenstein garden to the general public. The garden is open daily from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Visitors were reminded of the need to comply with all current quarantine regulations, including wearing a face mask regime and keep the social distance. Built together with the palace in 1623 – 1630 the garden is one of the finest examples of the early Baroque in Prague. This strictly geometrically designed garden was created in parallel with the construction of the Palace. At first sight, one’s eyes are drawn to the massive sala pavilion, which at the time of its construction was unprecedented, and an artificial cave with stalactites (grotto). A part of the garden is reserved for an artificial pond with an islet, which was used for boat rides. On the islet, there is a copy of a marble fountain with statues of Hercules and the Nayades by Adriaen de Vries. The pond was used for experiments with a steamship by the inventor Josef Božek in 1816. You Can Now Admire Last Remaining ‘Wild’ Horses in Prague 5

On April 19th, 2021, the almost twenty-hectare plain at Prague’s Dívčí hrady became the new home to Przewalski’s horses. The Prague Zoo staff transported the first four mares from the breeding station in Dolní Dobřejov. They will be joined by a stallion in due time. “The purpose of this project is not only to regenerate this historic site but also to use the wild horses to graze the grass, thus contributing to the return of the original communities of plants and animals,” said Miroslav Bobek, Prague Zoo’s director. “It is also important for us that Prague’s citizens will be able to see Przewalski’s horses at Dívčí hrady while we are rebuilding their stables and enclosures at the zoo.” The first inhabitants at Dívčí hrady are the mares Khamiina, Xicara, Lana and Gruhne (see below for more details). They were chosen so that they guaranteed the greatest possible genetic diversity for the future reproduction of this group of Przewalski’s horses.
