Orel and friends is a space dedicated to Czech craft, located in the historical area of Malá strana in Prague, in the Nerudova street. This space is somewhere between a souvenir shop, an art gallery and a concept store. You will find there a unique selection coming from around 30 local artists: ceramics, wooden toys, jewelry, leather books, photos, notebooks, posters, handbags. Some of the goods were specially designed for us in close cooperation with the artists. Behind Orel and friends there’s Stéphane Corbet, a French living in Prague for 17 years. He personally selected the work of around 30 artists. Why Orel and friends? Orel means eagle in Czech language. The shop is located in the house of the red eagle. “In Prague there are only four houses with such a name. Hazard? Destiny? Call it as you want but I had no other choice than to associate the eagle to my project which I did through the name Orel and friends as well as in the logo,” said Stéphane. “The most personal part of the project is that I am as well proposing my photos of Czech hiking trail markers as well as some goods imagined and designed with...
Kinský Gardens are an area of 22 hectares located in Prague 5, on the southeastern slope of Petřin Hill and separated from the other Petřin gardens by the Hunger Wall, built by Charles IV. The best idea is to use the entrance gate on the top of Petřín Hill, between the Rose Garden and the Strahov Dormitory. In the garden, you will find a wooden church and the Kinský Summer Palace with a National Museum ethnographic exhibition. Woods originally occupied the area and then were replaced by vineyards. Prince Rudolf Kinský bought several vineyards on the hillside of Petřín intending to build an extensive garden and a summer residence. The Kinský Folly, located between Lesser Town and Smíchov, is now called the Kinský Summerhouse. Was built between 1827–1831 by the architect Heinrich Koch and since 1901, this unique summerhouse is an ethnographical museum. In 1922, the museum became part of the National Museum. It documents the traditional folk culture of the Czech lands, Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, presenting everyday rural life in the 19th and 20th centuries. The ethnographic exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm for only 70 CZK. After visiting the museum,...

A few years ago, Sweden suddenly had the most innovative music scene in Europe with groups like The Knife, Little Dragon, and Jose Gonzalez to name just a few acclaimed on the international scene. Movits! joined this tier, but with even better sales internationally, by combining hip-hop and old-time jazz in a new direction—or at least it was new when they got started about a decade ago. After all, jazz and hip-hop have been joined at the hips since the beginning of hip-hop and in the UK with the Acid Jazz scene since the mid-90s, but hip-hoppers had never fully reached out to Swing, the golden age of jazz (the 1930s through 1950s), when swing dancing was the rage in America and Europe. And so, it took Movits!, a trio from Lulea, in northern Sweden to finally bridge these worlds. Movits! debut album in 2008 “Appelkynckarjazz” which translates in English as “Stealing apples jazz-style” combined the high-energy acoustic swing jazz of Django Reinhardt with the power of swing orchestras (thanks to modern electronics). Actually, it was only after hearing the Benny Goodman classic “Sing Sing Sing” at a party, that the brothers Anders & Johan got the idea to merge...
Shared services thrive in the capital. The same is true of so-called carsharing. The number of cars in this segment could almost double in the coming months. The first foreign player entered the market this past spring. The Anytime multinational service first deployed a hundred cars to Prague’s streets. Now it intends to expand its fleet by another two hundred vehicles. Next year, the German Volkswagen is considering entering the Prague market with the WeShare service, whose electric car has already proved its worth in Berlin. The Hungarian GreenGo is also planning to expand this year, which will also offer around a hundred electric vehicles in the capital. According to experts, carsharing services, along with well-functioning public transport and taxis, can make part of society decide not to own a car. “In a large Prague-like agglomeration, one shared car can replace up to ten parked cars in the streets,” explains Kryštof Kruliš, Chairman of the Consumer Forum Board. Car sharing will soon find a use for small entrepreneurs, as well. At least the director of the Institute of Circular Economy Soňa Jonášová thinks so. “It is important not to try to apply these new concepts in every area and field....

Just released, World of Airports is a new modern airport management game created by Czech developers together with Prague Airport. It all started as a small fun project, with their first game AirportPRG, but after thousands of downloads, they have created a new one with more options. World of Airports adds new features such as airport expansion, story mode, multiplayer as well as featuring stunning visuals. It offers an authentic virtual environment in which each player controls the airport and the airline. Directly at Václav Havel Airport, the game was officially presented by the game journalist, Alžběta Trojanová, and aerobatic aviator Petr Kopfstein. Players can build their airline, expand available connection networks with a new destination and customize livery of their fleet. You get to upgrade the airport facilities and boost up the efficiency of handling other players and generic traffic airplanes. Besides Václav Havel Airport Prague, the main airport in the game, players have a choice of airports in Innsbruck, Austria and Bari, Italy (more playable airports to come upon release). You get to expand your fleet from the smallest propeller passenger aircraft to large wide-body jetliners. Play online with your friends across platforms (Android and IOS players will share...
