The first part of the long-awaited revitalization of the Prague riverfront area called Náplavka is coming to completion, making it one of the most attractive public embankments in Europe. In autumn 2019, nineteen vaults on the Rašín and Hořejší Embankments will be put into use. The masterplan of the Prague riverfront area includes a number of architectural interventions that will gradually encompass the vast riverfront area, almost 4 km in length. It is envisioned as a consistent whole, comprising a balanced architectural framework, established cultural and social content, and other program layers, as well as variable elements such as floating facilities, temporary installations and events. The stone part of the design is based on the vaults in the riverside wall; the floating part, on the large floating facilities (boat terminals, floating baths and floating toilets). Floating Pool The aim of the project is to restore the tradition of river baths through a modern badeschiff-type floating pool with complementary facilities complying with contemporary requirements. The location of the baths echoes the historical placement of swimming pools along the Vltava embankment, with their specific connection to the Rašín embankment. The swimming pool belongs to the river “realm”, while the floating facility follows...
Find this small boho paradise on the island in the middle of Prague. From June to September, you can enjoy live music, various outdoor activities, and great coffee and food. You can relax under the shades of the trees and quietly observe the life on the Vltava river with a view to Charles Bridge and National Theatre. It’s a real paradise that will take you far away from your everyday reality. Cocovan This oasis of peace is a great project of one couple, Baronka and David. In previous years, they run a successful Camp Žižkov and popular Coffee Corner. However, they had to close the business in 2016. So, they bought a retro van from 1969 and reconstructed it for mobile café in a bohemian style. Name CoCo Van refers to their previous COffee COrner. They traveled with Cocovan to various festivals, and they became so popular with their boho concept, so they received an offer from Malostranská beseda who is responsible for this area, to run a program for a whole island in the same vibes. In summer 2018, Cocovan finally parked to Střelecký Ostrov. Baronka with David created a permanent boho paradise for all visitors searching for a...

Thanks to its sponsors and patrons, the Bohemia Jazz Fest has become a summer ritual with jazz fans from all over Central Europe gathering on the squares of historic Czech cities to see and hear the world’s greatest jazz performers. During this time, he daringly took sensitive excursions into the world of pop music with Rebekka Bakken, while pursuing the electronic project Muthspiel/Muthspiel with his brother. Jazz pianist Stefano Bollani began playing piano as a child in order to accompany his singing but soon concentrated solely on the instrument, enrolling in a conservatory in Florence when he was 11. There, he studied both jazz and pop music, and after graduating...

I like hidden places and Kinského zahrada in Prague is one of them. The gardens seem to be part of Petřín, a huge hill with this miniature Eiffel tower sitting on the top, but are more private, hidden behind a wall. Gardens were rebuilt in the English style in the 19th century (I read this fact while writing this article) and it probably explains why I see people having picnics on the lawn and why the place feels to me instinctively English. Kinského zahrada is all about great views too. I don’t know why people love views so much…does it make us feel on the top of the world and all the things on it? Is it the combination of the magnificent and scary? I’m not sure myself, but I love them. And Prague is, thanks to its hilly nature, very generous with views. You have to climb up a bit to catch the best views. I took this picture by the biggest lake in the park and it gives a pretty view of the eastern part of Prague, highlighting Prague’s Manhattan on Pankrac. Author: Irena Schlosser. Summer cinema sessions will start on June 18 right on the rooftop of Prague’s Exhibition Palace (Veletržní palác). That is a really unusual and inspiring place to watch well-known Czech and foreign films on the original motion picture film of the 16 and 35 mm format and enjoy the view. The cinema will be opened until October; the movies are scheduled every Tuesday and Wednesday (beginning at 21:30). The cinema hall has been there since the Palace was opened. It was located in the basement of the building and called Kino Favorit, and then renamed to Kino Veletrhy. The cinema was, unfortunately, destroyed by fire in August 1974. With hundreds of millions of crowns worth of damage, it was too costly to rebuild the palace. While there was discussion and heated debate on its future, it stood empty for two decades – there was even talk of tearing it down, until it came into the hands of the National Gallery, which was looking for space to exhibit its modern art collection. The one billion crown renovation lasted for almost an entire decade. It was not until December 13, 1995, that it was officially opened. The ceremony was attended by then Czech President Vaclav...
On July 19th, Manifesto Market Prague Smichov will open its doors to the first visitors and make the unique experience of pairing elegant design, local and international food and cultural performances more accessible to the residents of Vltava’s left bank. Manifesto seeks to revive Smichov’s unused yard of the historical Narodni dum communal building. This pop-up concept will have a shorter existence than its Florenc sibling and should move after this winter to another site in the same district. “We are creating a new, exciting community hub near Andel, that seeks to reconnect Narodni dum building and local residents to the bounty of beautiful gardens, parks and Vltava riverfront nearby,” said Manifesto’s founder Martin Barry. A new culinary garden At Manifesto Smíchov, organizers will collaborate with fine-dining experts Zatisi Group and Sasazu and bring along a couple of Manifesto’s favorites – PokeHaus and Faency Fries, The Craft will test a new concept. Pilsner Urquell will install four brand new copper tanks at the main bar for tank beer and Manifesto will continue to offer microbrews from Vinohradsky pivovar. Other local microbreweries will be invited on a...
