Ex Deputy Mayor of Moscow Owns 13 Apartments in Prague, Czech Finance Ministry Says

The family of State Duma deputy Vladimir Resin, who had been first deputy to Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov for 20 years, owns 13 apartments in Prague worth over 100 million crowns, Czech Television reports citing the Office of Financial Analysis of the Czech Ministry of Finance. The politician’s family bought the last two apartments in March 2022, after the start of the war in Ukraine. «All the apartments are located in a newly built complex in Zličín. They are registered to Contract Services, a company managed by Resin’s grandson, who has permanent residency Israel. Resin’s daughter and son-in-law control all of his assets. The company also owns a three hundred square meter apartment in Vršovice, where its head office is located. However, according to neighbors, the owners rarely visit the place,» the report says. Celebrate the International Chidren’s Day at Petřín

Prague City Tourism, together with the operator, is launching a historic carousel, lent to Prague by its Italian owners, on Children’s Day! On this occasion, children can enjoy a free ride on the carousel if they purchase a ticket to the Petřín Lookout Tower or the Mirror Maze. The attraction will be in operation from 1.6. 2022 by the end of September. And because the historical merry-go-round is also coming back to Petřín in June, the ticket for the Petřín Lookout Tower or Mirror Maze comes with a free voucher for one free ride on the historical carousel for each child. The voucher can only be used on June 1 and it’s valid for youngsters under the age of 18. Non-paying children under 5 years of age get registered on the ticket of their accompanying person and so are also entitled to the free-ride carousel voucher. Classical Music at Werich’s is a festival of outdoor chamber music recitals and concerts taking place from May 31 to 13  September 2022, always at 7 p.m., in the Werich Villa Garden on Kampa Island. The second edition of the classical music cycle is performed by exceptional and talented young artists in the Werich Villa garden – the former home of the incomparable actor, philosopher, and writer Jan Werich. For the first time with international guests, an accompanying program for children and “Echoes”, i.e. concerts of the Prague programs in selected locations in the Czech Republic – in the “Horácké divadlo” theatre in Jihlava and the Schwarzenberg Tomb in Třeboň. June 10-11: Prague Castle to Host Two-Day Festival of Mini Breweries

Prague Castle is hosting a two-day festival of mini-breweries. The festival will offer the production of 50 Czech and Moravian breweries and four foreign brewers. Every year, the Czech-Moravian Association of Mini-Breweries organizes the Festival of Mini-Breweries at Prague Castle, which aims to introduce the production of mini-breweries from all over the country to the public. The number of visitors is limited due to the location and security of Prague Castle. Every day, 1.200 visitors can attend the event; 600 tickets will be sold at the venue. The price includes a catalog of mini-breweries, a degustation glass and unlimited tasting. The festival takes place in the beautiful premises of the Royal Garden of Prague Castle, on Střelecká cesta under the Royal Summer Palace, on Friday 10 June from 2 pm to 8 pm and on Saturday 11 June from 12 pm to 8 pm. Prague Transport Company Launches Safety Campaign With Body Outlines on Tram Tracks

Painted body outlines of fallen pedestrians on tram tracks are the latest measure to try to warn people to avoid accidents. This rather graphic step is part of the ongoing “Neskákej mi pod kola!” (Don’t jump under the wheel!) safety campaign with people and five fatalities. The campaign is intended to remind people that trams have priority at intersections. Because trams are on tracks, they cannot stop quickly, even if the driver sees the pedestrian on the tracks. The project is a joint venture of the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) in cooperation with safety organization BESIP, the Czech Police and regional transit organizer ROPID. “After the relative calm caused by Covid-19, people are returning to the streets and cars, and again we have heavy traffic, clogged roads, rising nervousness, and inattention, all of which contribute to the number of accidents that occur,” said one of DPP representative. Prague Districts to Receive Over EUR 7 Million for Transport Infrastructure

They will develop or reconstruct cycle paths and pedestrian bridges.  This week, the Czech capital announced that it will provide city districts with financing to help them implement projects that develop new or improve the current transport infrastructure. This financing will amount to a total of CZK 177,127,000 and be given in the form of subsidies. With this financial contribution, the City of Prague will assist districts in introducing new cycle paths, pedestrian bridges, and others. According to a press release, the districts that will receive financial support for the implementation of their projects are Prague 8, Prague 9, Prague 14, Prague 18, Prague 19, Prague-Běchovice, Prague-Čakovice, Prague-Dubeč, Prague-Klánovice, Prague-Lysolaje, Prague-Satalice and Prague-Vinoř. Commenting on their projects, Deputy Mayor for Transport Adam Scheinherr shared: “The projects which have succeeded with their application for subsidies should start to emerge this year and are currently in preparation. Prague Has Officially Stripped Soviet WWII Commander of Honorary Citizenship

Prague City stripped a Soviet World War II commander of his honorary Prague citizenship Thursday. The Prague City Council’s approved Mayor Zdenek Hrib’s proposal to revoke the honor bestowed in June 1945 on Soviet Marshal Ivan Stepanovic Konev. Konev led the Red Army forces that liberated large parts of Czechoslovakia from Nazi occupation in 1945 and also contributed to Prague’s liberation. He died in 1973. The mayor said the general and his army were welcomed in Prague in 1945 but he based his proposal on Konev’s post-war activities. After communism ended in 1989, Prague authorities stripped honorary citizenship from Soviet dictator Josef Stalin. Relations between Prague and Moscow were already in a downward spiral before the February 24 invasion amid what the Czechs see as Russia’s growing assertiveness over its interpretation of history. Konev, who died in 1973, was honored for his role in helping the liberation of Bohemia from Nazi Germany. CEE Cup International Football Tournament Back in Prague

The jubilee 10th year of the CEE Cup football tournament will take place on July 22 – 26, 2022. Matches of six teams, in two groups, will, as per tradition, take place on the playing grounds of the AC Sparta Prague Youth Training Center (TCM) in Strahov. The Final match, as with all the last years of the CEE Cup, will instead be played in the legendary Ďolíček stadium in Vršovice. It really took more than one thousand days before we were able to announce the jubilee tenth year of the tournament since the last final of the CEE Cup (July 30, 2019). Twice, the Covid-19 pandemic thwarted the organizers’ plans. One Million Passengers Using Prague Metro Every Day

A survey carried out by the operators of Prague’s metro system last month found that almost one million people use it every day, about 150,000 fewer people than before the covid-19 pandemic. The largest decrease in public transport passengers occurred at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, up to 80 percent. This year, the number of passengers is constantly increasing, yet it has not yet reached its original level. “We oscillate around one million passengers a day, there has even been one day when we reached one million and 50,000 passengers,” said Ropid Deputy Director Martin Šubrt. According to the official document, the largest decrease compared to the time before the pandemic is seen in the morning peak, with a decreaseof 15 to 20 percent. Around noon, the drop is about ten percent and in the afternoon between 10 and 15 percent of passengers. Fewer people now also use surface transport, with approximately 9 percent fewer passengers traveling by tram and bus compared to 2019. One of the leading personalities of contemporary European theatre, Angélica Liddell, is coming to Prague on June 9 and 10 with her latest production, which was premiered last year at the Festival d’Avignon. There is nothing in contemporary theater quite like an Angélica Liddell monologue. The Spanish director and performer, who has crafted her share of monumental productions over the past three decades, pushes herself to grating, visceral extremes onstage. In her productions, she always deals with autobiographical themes, for which she seeks a metaphorical framework. This time, she combines the story of the “divine bullfighter” Juan Belmonte and the music of Richard Wagner to create her own theatrical language. “It‘s a history of theatre and a history of my roots,” says Angélica about Liebestod. “Liebestod” was inspired by the Spanish tradition of bullfighting, and especially by Juan Belmonte, an innovative bullfighter who died in 1962.
