Trams and Buses in Prague are Also Taking Part in Movember

As seen in Klíčov, Kačerov, and also in the city centre, some buses and trams have been spotted sporting handsome moustaches in recent days. “According to traffic information, there are fifteen buses and fifteen trams” says the Ropid transport organiser on Facebook. Since November 1st, the public transport company has been involved in the “Movember” project. In Prague, as well as twelve other cities in the Czech Republic, buses and trams have been decorated with moustaches in support of the cause. “We want to promote Movember and help raise awareness for men’s health. The aim is to be seen by as many people as possible in the city streets,” the press department representative of the transport company stated, adding that this is another joint project under the patronage of the Association of Transport Companies of the Czech Republic. Some Restaurants in Prague Prohibit Children From Entering

Some hotel and restaurant owners have decided to prohibit the entrance of children under a certain age. In doing so, however, they are risking receiving heavy fines for “discrimination”. One Prague restaurant that decided to restrict entrance to everyone under the age of 18 is currently facing this very problem. The Stodola House restaurant in the south of Prague has a large sign on the board next to the door stating that children under the age of 18 are prohibited from entering. Because of this decision, the owner might be taken to court. According to the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (CTI), prohibiting the entrance of children violates the law as it is considered “age discrimination”. “This is unacceptable discriminatory behaviour, not only against persons under the age of 18, but also against persons over eighteen years of age, such as parents…” it said in the statement that the owner of Stodola House, David Salomon, received after the Czech Trade Inspection. All Trams Will Have Card Payment Terminals Within Half a Year

All trams on Prague’s public transport network will be equipped with card payment terminals within the next six months. The transportation company (DPP) signed a four-year contract with Bankovní informační technologie, who will fit the devices into each tram. DPP will pay the company a commission of 1.99 percent of the ticket price. Bankovní informační technologie is owned by Czech bank ČSOB. Cards can already be used on line 18 and line 22. The pilot project for the purchase of tickets through a single contactless payment was launched in April 2016, when they fitted contactless self-service devices on the first two trams on line 22. A few months later, the project was extended to include line 18 as well. Based on the positive evaluation of the pilot project, it was decided that the card payment service would be expanded to the entire tram network. The device works in such a way that once the passenger has boarded and put the card on the device, the machine will call up the same type of ticket the passenger had previously purchased. Prague 1 Threatens Ban on Lime Scooters

Following the ban in Prague 2, Prague 1 are also calling on City Hall to enforce stricter rules on the electric scooters launched by US start-up Lime. The head of Prague 1 City Council also insisted that if the situation is not improved, the district would call for a ban on the scooters similar to that in Prague 2. Currently, scooters are banned from being left in the territory of the second district. Prague City Hall supports the concept of shared transportation and signed an agreement with the providers, under which the company ensured compliance with the legislation. More Than a Third of Drug Abusers in the Czech Republic are in the Capital

Prague is the region with the highest number of problem drug users in the country, with around 16,200 estimated to be in the city. The nationwide estimate is 46,800. The trend of aging drug addicts persists, with the average age of clients in contact centres being around 35 to 36 years old. The number of drug users in the country has increased, but the number of Roma clients has decreased. The most common legal drugs are alcohol and nicotine. As for illegal substances, the most common are marijuana, opiates, and methamphetamine. Compared to other regions in the country, opiates are abused mostly in Prague. These results were shared in the Annual Report on Drug Policy for 2017, which was discussed today by the Prague city council. The situation is different in different parts of the city. The drug scene is most apparent in the city centre and areas around metro stations where there is usually a higher supply and demand for illicit drugs and there are frequent problems with their use in public. Astronomers Claim That the Astronomical Clock is Historically Inaccurate

At the end of September, after several months, the reparation work on the Old Town Hall and the astronomical clock ended. The clock has been repainted and now has a new look. Letna Ice Rink to Open on December 1st

The Letna ice rink will be opening again soon, and this season there will be several new things to see and do! Prague is continuing its annual tradition of the Letna ice rink. The launch of this year’s skating season will take place on Thursday the 1st of December, and an afternoon ice-skating program is available for children. The ice-skating rink is on the Letenské plain, located near Milada Horáková Street opposite the Sparta football stadium. Outside of sporting activities, there will also be an interesting accompanying program. In addition to the main skating rink measuring 40×20 meters, the organizers will prepare a second, small skating rink (22×10 meters). Guests will also have access to paid skate rental, fast food tents with heated benches and a skating school where experienced instructors will teach beginners to feel confident on the ice. Lítačka Tickets Not Loading on Public Transport Inspection Devices

“I don’t see anything… do you have a receipt for the ticket?” inspectors and transport controllers have been heard repeating this phrase on Prague’s public transportation in the past few weeks. The proof of payment is often the only confirmation of the fact that the traveller has a valid ticket recorded on their Lítačka card. This problem started at the beginning of September when Lítačka began selling public transportation tickets on their e-shop. “There are people who use their Litacka card, and neither the inspectors nor the validators can see the recorded coupon” Míša Strnadová, a spokeswoman for Prague Integrated Transport on Facebook voiced her annoyance, and her words were confirmed by many other Prague citizens. Prague Lags Behind European Average in Innovation

While Prague is the most innovative region of the Czech Republic, the entire country falls behind other European countries in comparison, according to the European Commission’s ranking. Prague still dominates in investment in research and development for innovation, particularly in business and technological maturity. In 2016, Prague’s business realm invested 11.4 billion crowns, 89 percent of the European average. In fact, Prague’s current 9.7 billion CZK contributes to more than two-thirds of total government spending on research and development in the Czech Republic (which is more than half of the European average). For reference in the Czech Republic, the second highest public spending on research and development belongs to the Central Bohemian region, which is 2.3 billion crowns. Prague must bow down to other regions in the Czech Republic in some categories. Fifty-five percent of people in Central Bohemia use internet to communicate with public institutions and 52 percent in Bratislava, Slovakia, while Prague is less than half. FYI Prague will provide local printing, manage relationships with journalists and participate in the implementation of communication strategies for the brand.
