Germany Deletes Czech Republic From List of COVID-19 Mutation Areas

Germany has deleted the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Austrian Tyrol from the list of regions with a high incidence of the more dangerous coronavirus mutations as of March 28, the Robert Koch Institute, administering this list, announced today.  Austria’s hard-hit Tyrol region, which borders Germany, is also no longer considered a virus variant region and is now classified as a lower-level risk area, RKI added. The travel updates come as Germany struggles to halt a sharp rise in new infections amid a slow vaccination drive and the spread of new, more contagious virus strains first detected in Britain, South Africa and Brazil. In mid-February, the German government declared the Czech Republic, Slovakia and most of Tyrol to be areas with an increased incidence of more contagious coronavirus mutations. From these areas, only German citizens and residents could enter their territory. Exceptions were given to truck drivers, medical staff and other groups of citizens, including cross-border workers. Czech Airlines Resumes Flights to Five Destinations

Czech Airlines (ČSA) is planning to resume flights to another five European destinations in the coming weeks. As of April 2, ČSA is planning to resume flights to Odesa, Ukraine (twice a week), as of April 16 to Amsterdam (nearly daily), as of May 1 to Copenhagen (nearly daily) and Keflavik (four times a week), and as of June 12 to Malta (once a week). Currently, ČSA operates regular flights to Paris (daily), Stockholm (3 times a week), Kyiv (daily), and Moscow (three times a week). The number of flights to these destinations is also to increase in spring. With respect to the rather unfavorable epidemiological situation across Europe and the existing restrictions, Czech Airlines is extending the free rebooking option until 30 June 2021. The latest departure date for a rebooked flight is 31 March 2022. Passengers are allowed to board Czech Airlines airplanes to and from the Czech Republic only with a hardcopy certificate of a negative antigen (rapid) or RT-PCR test from an accredited laboratory and are required to wear a protective device over the nose and mouth (a respirator mask). Greece and Croatia Prepare for a Busy Tourist Season Expecting Many Czech Visitors

As vaccination efforts have increased across Europe, countries like Greece and Croatia are already preparing for large amounts of tourism. In Croatia, the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tomáš Petříček is currently negotiating conditions of entry for tourists visiting the Adriatic sea from the Czech Republic. Safe locations to visit will be designated by a special marking stating “Safe Stay in Croatia”. According to Petříček, Greece will accept an antigen test as an adequate requirement for those who have not yet been vaccinated. They are anticipating the country’s tourism season to begin on May 14 if safety conditions permit. “They are either being tested or will show sufficient immunity as a result of the Covid -19 disease they have already undergone, or they will submit a negative test for covid-19,” Petříček said. Germany Extends Border Control With Czech Republic

Germany has extended border control with the Czech Republic and Austria’s Tyrol region, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said on Wednesday, citing the current number of new coronavirus infections and more virus variant cases. “We decided today to extend border controls in mutation areas in the Czech Republic and Austria,” Seehofer said. The control was reinstated on February 14, following the introduction of a stricter lockdown in the Czech Republic. At the same time, the German state of Saxony has eased entry conditions for commuters from the Czech Republic, allowing workers who are essential to the operation of their employer to cross the border without having to quarantine. All commuters who are systemically indispensable for their employer can now enter Saxony. In this case, the employer fills in a form, which they have confirmed with the relevant provincial authority. EU Unveils Holiday Passport Plan

The EU has presented plans to issue ‘digital green certificates’ allowing its 450million people to travel freely across the bloc this summer.  The scheme, which will be discussed next week during a summit of EU leaders, will facilitate travel across Europe for people who have been vaccinated as well as others who have recently been tested or recovered from Covid-19. ‘We all want the tourist season to start. We can’t afford to lose another season,’ European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova told Czech public radio. ‘Tourism, and also culture and other sectors that are dependent on tourism terribly suffer. We’re talking about tens of millions of jobs.’ The commission proposed that its Digital Green Certificates, which should be free of charge, would be delivered to EU residents who can prove they have been vaccinated, but also to those who tested negative for the virus or have proof they recovered from it. Smartwings, Czech Airlines Now Require Negative Covid-19 Test From Passengers

Smartwings and Czech Airlines now require all passengers to have a negative Covid-19 test result that is performed within 72 hours of departure. “The result of the antigen test must not be older than 24 hours and the result of the PCR test must not be older than 72 hours before boarding,” said spokeswoman Vladimíra Dufková. From Friday, March 5, new conditions apply for travel by Smartwings and Czech Airlines. “It will be possible to board to or from the Czech Republic only with the written confirmation of a negative result of an antigen or PCR test,” Dufková added. There is an exception for children under 5 years of age and passengers who present a written certificate in English or Czech from a physician residing in the EU confirming that the passenger has no Covid-19 symptoms, demonstrably recovered from it, and was in isolation as required upon a positive PCR test. Czech Government Bans Travel to South Africa, Brazil Due to Virus Variants

The Czech Republic will ban travel to several African and South American countries where there is a high risk from new South African or Brazilian coronavirus variants, the government said on Wednesday. The government is seeking to slow a fast-rising COVID-19 infection rate that has put stress on the central European country’s hospitals. Lawmakers have debated tighter measures to combat the spread. The health ministry said the travel ban would be in effect from Feb. 26 to April 11, with some exceptions. It includes Botswana, Brazil, Swaziland, South Africa, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, including the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba, Zambia and Zimbabwe. IATA Expects to Roll Out Covid Travel Pass ‘Within Weeks’: All You Need to Know

The IATA sees the digital travel pass, a mobile app developed by the association, as an essential tool for the reopening of international borders. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reportedly said the digital Covid travel pass should be ready “within weeks” as several airlines are conducting trials of the app that verifies the health status of passengers. While governments around the world gradually lifted restrictions on the entry of foreigners, many of them announced their own set of requirements that inbound travellers must fulfill to board a plane. On Thursday, 18 February, RegioJet opened ticket sales for its summer night service to Croatia. The train will have up to 12 coaches with a maximum capacity of 560. One-way fares to Rijeka cost CZK 590 per person, with the compartments available for groups. Berths in couchette coaches for individuals or groups start at CZK 790 per person. One-way fares to Zagreb are sold from CZK 690 (CZK 990 in couchette coaches), and to Split from CZK 890 (CZK 1090 in couchette coaches). All fares include seat reservation, free coffee and breakfast, WiFi, and access to free entertainment services. Passengers will also be able to order refreshments online before the train departs, and purchase drinks and snacks while onboard. European Countries Are Launching Vaccine Passports

The President of the European Union Commission Ursula von der Leyen supports the idea of a common vaccination certificate, which can be established by the EU, and issued by the Member States to every person who gets vaccinated against COVID-19. In an interview for Portuguese media, Von der Leyen was asked regarding the proposal of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to introduce a common document that would be issued to EU citizens who receive the vaccine against COVID-19. At a meeting with the European Commission, Portugal’s Interior Minister Eduardo Cabrita ventured that vaccine certification would be easier to manage than the current Covid-19 requirements. Antigen Tests Will Suffice From High-Risk Countries Until February 14

For arrival in the Czech Republic from countries with a high risk of infection – including Slovakia, Britain, Spain, Portugal, the Baltic countries, Slovenia or Ireland – an antigen test will suffice until 14 February instead of PCR test. On Monday, Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček (ČSSD) stated that from Friday, February 5th, it is necessary to show a PCR test, when returning from countries with a very high risk. The new category of so-called dark red (high-risk) countries have the strictest epidemiologic measures applicable to journeys. There is the obligation to submit a first PCR test done 72 hours or less prior to the departure, followed by a second PCR test undergone in the Czech Republic at the earliest the 5th day from the entry. Self-isolation is obligatory until the second negative test result is submitted. At the same time, the obligation to wear a respirator of at least FFP2 class will apply for ten days from arrival.
