In 2022, a new sleeper train will add to a network of planned routes that will link up cities across Europe, including Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam. It joins a growing number of companies reviving overnight rail travel across the continent, such as the French rail start-up with plans to connect Paris to destinations like Copenhagen, Rome and Porto by 2024. The French start-up, which goes by the name of Midnight Trains, is described as a “hotel on rails” and will feature a restaurant and bar onboard, as well as hotel-style private rooms. From its base in Paris, it hopes to travel to 12 European destinations from 2024 and make the journey an adventure in itself for passengers. The project is still in its early stages but Midnight Trains is just one of the many companies catering to a growing faction of travelers looking to swap air travel for slow and sustainable rail travel instead. France’s state-owned SNF rail company announced an ambitious plan back in 2017 to reignite its sleeper trains, and last month launched a night service from Paris to Côte d’Azur with tickets starting at €29 for the 12-hour journey. And there is more in the pipeline with SNCF aiming to bring back a total of 10 sleeper services over the next 10 years....
Prague Airport said it was deploying more staff to prepare for an expected increase in traffic after the Czech government eased travel restrictions. “We are increasing our personnel capacity and reinforcing the technical equipment to speed up the entire check-in process on arrivals,” said Jiri Kraus, Vice Chairman of the board for Prague Airport in a statement on August 31, 2021. “Passengers can help accelerate the arrival checks too by reviewing the current conditions and preparing all documents in advance.” Travelers from outside the European Union who wish to visit Prague can now do so provided they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to new rules set out by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, as of August 23rd, 2021. However, the vaccines should be approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or their own country’s relevant authority, and the travelers should come from countries that have recognized vaccine certificates. Prague Airport said the new airport measures have been implemented in partnership with the country’s Ministry of Health, Foreign Police, and Customs Administration. “Together, the parties thus respond to the gradually increasing traffic at Prague Airport and the possibility to visit the country for tourist activities by foreigners,”...
A Czech court has ruled in favour of Czech ticket seller Kiwi.com against Ryanair in a lingering dispute over Kiwi’s practices for handling passenger data. Ryanair had threatened to reject boarding passes issued by Kiwi.com, but that was unjustified according to Constitutional Court judge Kateřina Šimáčková. Ryanair took Kiwi.com to court over its handling of passengers’ personal data, which Ryanair claimed prevented it from contacting passengers in case of flight changes. The Irish carrier wanted Kiwi.com to be compelled to share more passenger data. But the Constitutional Court has now overturned an earlier ruling by the Regional Court in Brno (and then upheld on appeal at the High Court in Olomouc) which had instructed Kiwi.com to adjust information according to Ryanair’s terms and conditions, and to share customers’ email and residence addresses as well as their payment details. The Constitutional Court ruled that the earlier judgement ran contrary to the freedom to conduct business. Ryanair wants travellers to book tickets only on the Ryanair website, and not through third parties, stating that this is the only way that consumers are guaranteed the lowest rates. However, Kiwi.com believes it should be allowed to sell Ryanair tickets, both individually and in a composite trip. It also uses...

After a year pause, departure halls are getting busy, and Czechs go more often on well-deserved holiday breaks this year. The majority of passengers have flown to Greece, Italy and Spain in July 2021. The list of the most popular places is led by Burgas, Bulgaria. According to the latest statistics, over 605,000 passengers were handled at Václav Havel Airport Prague last month, which represents an increase of more than 140 percent compared to last year. Thanks to direct flights, passengers can currently fly from Prague to enjoy warm weather to about a hundred destinations, such as Italy, Greece and Malta. “The last month’s operating results have exceeded our original forecasts of handled passengers and at the same time confirmed that passengers are returning aboard aircraft. Czechs mostly select one of typical holiday destinations this summer but can also use several connections to major European capitals. Considering the advancing vaccination and simplifications of travel conditions for vaccinated passengers, our priority for the coming months is the support of inbound tourism and the subsequent further resumption of operations,” Jaroslav Filip, Director of Prague Airport Aviation Business, said. Several brand-new routes will be launched in September 2021. Wizz Air will operate the Naples...
Following the lawsuit of the American airline Southwest Airlines and the escalation of the dispute with Ryanair, there is another inconvenience on Kiwi.com. The Dutch airline KLM sent a letter to the Czech company, asking Kiwi.com to stop selling their tickets. The cooperation with Kiwi.com was interrupted several months ago by the Russian airline Aeroflot. Traditional airlines prefer established practices and traditional pricing structures, Kiwi.com spokeswoman Nina Černá responded. “They threaten the reputation of the high quality of our services,” KLM spokeswoman Marjan Rozemeijer told E15 daily about the reasons for the request. “We have sent a letter to Kiwi.com asking them to respect our wishes and the request that we do not want them to sell our tickets to clients,” a spokeswoman for the Dutch company told E15. Airlines do not like the refund process and the sale of tickets for connecting flights. “Kiwi.com is not authorized by KLM to sell our tickets, but they buy them through agencies and then sell downstream connections. It often happens that passengers do not know which ticket they bought, “explains Rozemeijer. As a result, the luggage may arrive at an airport other than the passenger himself, says a spokesman for the Dutch company. The second...
People from the US are now permitted to travel to the Czech Republic for non-essential travel, provided they are fully vaccinated and can prove it. However, there are currently no direct flights from the US to the Czech Republic, so if you’re planning a trip here’s how to make it happen. As of August 23, fully vaccinated travelers from the US can visit the Czech Republic. Travelers must show proof of vaccination to enter, which is the white card from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The vaccination must be approved by the European Medicines Agency (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covishield or Johnson & Johnson doses) to be recognized for travel there. Travelers are also required to fill in a Passenger Locator Form before boarding their flight. There are currently no direct flights from the US to the Czech Republic according to the US Embassy, so travelers who wish to visit will have to transit through another country. That will likely be another European nation as most flights between the two countries connect there. The Czech Republic is open to travelers from the EU and Schengen Zone countries without restrictions, so travelers shouldn’t have to go through any additional measures. That said, it’s important...

The Wroclaw bishops and archbishops gradually created a monumental Baroque chateau from the medieval castle and used it as a summer residence. In honour of their patron, John the Baptist, they renamed it Jánský Vrch. The chateau on the rocky hill above the town close to the border with Poland was the center of erudition and culture in the most northern tip of Silesia for many years. It stands out for unusual technological peculiarities: a water main was already here at the turn of the 18th and the 19th centuries and in 1906–1932 gas chandeliers and lamps were used in the interiors and in the main courtyard. Of particular interest in the chateau is the interior décor with magnificent furnishings as well as an art collection covering the Renaissance up to Biedermeier. The unique exhibition of pipes and smoking utensils presents not only European but also American, African and Oriental examples. This is the largest exhibition of its kind in the Czech Republic and consists of approximately 1200 items from the 18th to the 20th century. The chateau has also been the local centre for music culture since the year 1769 when the composer Karel Ditters of Dittersdorf lived here...

The low-cost airline Ryanair will not accept tickets and boarding passes that have been sold through the Czech aggregator Kiwi.com. The Irish company Ryanair has long criticized the Czech portal for reselling tickets, which the air carrier forbids. “Threatening customers not to board on board with our boarding pass is a petty and immoral practice,” said Kiwi.com airline spokeswoman Nina Černá. “As of August 18, no passengers who have purchased their tickets through Kiwi.com will be allowed to board Ryanair aircraft,” the company said. “Ryanair is urging customers to buy tickets through the company’s official website and to avoid using third parties, such as Kiwi.com, who have no right to sell Ryanair tickets,” the company said in a statement. The Irish airline bases its approach on European regulation, which requires passengers to complete check-in directly at Ryanair, due to safety and regulatory procedures. “We discovered these fake boarding passes when a smaller number of passengers booked through Kiwi.com arrived last week without an official Ryanair boarding pass,” said Ryanair Marketing Director Dara Brady. “If you make a reservation through Kiwi.com, we recommend that you contact Kiwi.com and obtain the necessary information from them so that you can complete the check-in process according...
Lufthansa subsidiary to take off from the Czech capital for the first time from October to attractive vacation and business destinations throughout Europe Eurowings will launch 11 new routes from Prague from the end of October, the airline announced on Tuesday. It plans to have flights to cities in Spain, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Denmark, Croatia, and Israel. The company has previously announced that it will open a new base at Prague Airport in the autumn. It will have three Airbus A320 aircraft in operation. The Lufthansa subsidiary will deploy new flights from October 31. However, right now passengers can already book flights to Malaga, Barcelona, Fuerteventura, or Tenerife, as well as to Athens, Birmingham, Bristol, Copenhagen, Milan, Zagreb, and Tel Aviv. Eurowings’ only current route from Prague is to Düsseldorf, Germany. The expansion of flight routes is related to the planned opening of a new Eurowings base in Prague. Initially, the carrier plans to operate two Airbus A320 aircraft, and next summer, the existing fleet will be completed by a third aircraft. That way, Prague will become the tenth Eurowings base in Europe. From Prague to Spain Eurowings flys its passengers from Prague up to four times a week...
