Celebrate with Champions: Czech Hockey Team’s Victory Parade at Old Town Square
On Monday evening, May 27, a grand celebration with the Czech hockey team, which won the ice hockey world championship on Sunday, will take place at Old Town Square.
Everyone is welcome to come and congratulate the hockey players. The event will be held in the fan zone, where thousands of fans gathered yesterday to watch the final match. The festivities will begin at 5 pm.
Old Town Square in Prague has long been a traditional venue for hockey players to celebrate their victories with fans.
The square was filled with joyous crowds in 1998 after the Czech team won their first Olympic gold medal in Nagano, Japan, and again in 2010 following their last World Championship victory.
It was the seventh title won by the Czech Republic — or Czechia — after the country was created in 1993 following the breakup of Czechoslovakia and the first since 2010.
Czech captain Roman Cervenka, who led his team with 11 points, is the only remaining player from the 2010 gold-medal team.
Additionally, the bronze medals were claimed by the Swedish national team. The Scandinavians had a strong second half in the final period, achieving a 4:2 victory over Canada.
Czechoslovakia won six titles.
Over three million people in Czechia, which has a population of 10.7 million, watched the end of the game, according to preliminary figures released by Czech Television.
