French Film Festival Brings Cannes Premieres to Prague

Prague Morning

The French Film Festival will return to Czechia for its 28th edition from November 20 to 26, 2025, taking place in Prague, Brno, České Budějovice, Hradec Králové, and Ostrava.

The festival will feature fourteen new releases, including Cannes Film Festival premieres, a Czech Critics’ Choice competition, and special tributes to Alain Delon and Émilie Dequenne.

A large part of this year’s program consists of titles first introduced at Cannes 2025. Among them is Cédric Klapisch’s The Colors of Time, set in late 19th-century Paris, and Stéphane Demoustier’s The Architect, centered on the creation of the La Défense district in Paris.

The musical Hello and Thanks! by Amélie Bonnin, which opened the Cannes Festival, will also be screened, alongside Thierry Klifa’s drama The Richest Woman in the World, starring Isabelle Huppert as a cosmetics empire heiress.

The festival will also screen Vincent Munier’s nature documentary The Whisper of the Forest, and Rebecca Zlotowski’s psychological drama The Private Life, starring Jodie Foster, Daniel Auteuil, and Virginie Efira.

Remembering Émilie Dequenne

This year’s festival will pay a heartfelt tribute to Belgian actress Émilie Dequenne, who passed away in spring 2025 at the age of 43. Audiences will have the chance to revisit several of her notable works, including Close, See You Up There, Love Stories, and Mr. Blake at Your Service.

The festival’s popular Short Film Evening will also return, offering a curated selection of works from emerging filmmakers.

Celebrating Alain Delon

The closing night of the festival will honor Alain Delon, who would have turned 90 this November. The official festival visuals this year are dedicated to his legacy.

Delon, whose career helped define post-war European cinema, remains a symbol of French cultural identity and artistry. Four of his landmark films will be screened: Melodies of the Underground, The Pool, Cats, and The Black Tulip.

Czech Critics’ Choice and Special Screenings

In Prague, six films will compete for the Audience Award in the Czech Critics’ Choice section. Notable contenders include Young Mothers by the Dardenne brothers, Marcel and Mr. Pagnol by Sylvain Chomet, and Richard Linklater’s The New Wave, a playful take on the making of the iconic film The Last Breath.

Also in competition are Grégory Magne’s Virtuoso, which explores the dynamics between four musicians, and Nathan Ambrosioni’s From Love, winner of the Best Director award at Karlovy Vary 2025. Another Czech premiere will be Anna Cazenave Cambet’s Love Me Tender, also featured at Cannes.

More information and the full program will be available in early November on the official website festivalff.cz
