REVIEW: The Legacy of Kafka Continues at Kafkoff
Prague Morning
The legacy of Franz Kafka has resurfaced with the arrival of Kafkoff, a project that features a café, bar, bistro and gallery situated in the Franz Kafka House just off the Old Town Square.
Open since early August, the venue aims to keep Kafka’s memory present in everyday life, using the space where he was born as a home for art, culture and community.
One of the most striking features inside the café are the two stunning pieces of art on the walls—images that transform depending on the angle you view them from.
These “two paintings in one” were conceived by Jakub Behyne, one of the founders of Prague’s Illusion Art Museum, and executed by an impressive team of artists. Zdeněk Daněk, one of the leading Czech masters of grisaille painting, collaborated with two of Europe’s top graffiti artists: Caer8th (Vladimir Hirsher) and Lukero.
The result is a pair of artworks that feel dynamic, playful, and deeply in tune with the shifting worlds Kafka often explored in his writing.
But Kafkoff isn’t only about visual surprises. The menu features an all-day brunch, comfort classics with a focus on quality ingredients sourced from local suppliers. The emphasis on freshness and thoughtful preparation makes each plate feel worth it.
On Fridays and Saturdays, the space transforms with live DJ sessions playing house and jazz, infusing the café with a warm, atmospheric energy. Themed parties are already becoming part of Kafkoff’s character, beginning with this year’s Halloween event created in collaboration with Prague Locals. As the café continues to grow, guests can expect even more cultural gatherings, acoustic jazz evenings, and community-focused events.

Since opening, Kafkoff has presented two exhibitions. All About Woman introduced a series of works reflecting on femininity and visual storytelling by artists Andrea Ehret and Vojtěch Šandera.
Their work combined calligraphy and mixed media with sculptures working primarily with metal. Taiwanese artist’s Evan Hsiao: Beyond the Ink explored contemporary approaches to ink-based illustration and abstraction, blending Eastern traditions with Western thought. The gallery space is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, and entry is completely free, for both locals and visitors.
Starting from the new year, Karkoff seeks to hold one exhibition per month, showcasing a range of artists and keeping the art and cultural world alive.
The space is also available for rent, whether for exhibitions, private gatherings, creative workshops, or small parties, offering artists and organizers a beautifully designed venue in central Prague.

The bar area is also evolving, now featuring a sleek new quartz counter that gives the interior a polished, modern edge.
And soon, visitors will enjoy Kafka quotes printed on coffee foam, connecting the café experience directly with the writer’s legacy.
Kafkoff is still young, still growing, still defining itself, and like Kafka’s own stories, the space invites interpretation, curiosity, and a willingness to look at things from more than one angle. It’s a café where art shifts as you move, shaping itself into a modern extension of Kafka’s cultural imprint.

It is a venue that invites visitors to eat, drink, look, listen and participate, all while keeping one of Prague’s most important writers present in the city he helped define.
