Petřín Tower Turns 135 with Special Events in May and June
Prague Morning
Prague City Tourism is marking the 135th anniversary of the Petřín Lookout Tower with a series of public events spread across May and June.
The program also includes activities at the nearby Mirror Maze, with a focus on family visitors and guided experiences on Petřín Hill.
The main anniversary day will take place on Sunday, May 3, when visitors will be able to enter the tower for a reduced ticket price of 135 CZK. The ticket will also include access to the Mirror Maze. Families with children will pay 270 CZK for joint entry. The day will also feature a quiz and a marble-themed exhibition near the tower.
František Cipro, chairman of Prague City Tourism, said the celebrations are designed mainly for families and will continue throughout the early summer period. Workshops and themed walks will run across May and June, expanding the program beyond the main anniversary date.
An outdoor marble exhibition organized with the Czech Marble Association will be part of the program. The installation is meant to draw attention to a children’s game that once had a stronger presence in public spaces. She also noted that the surrounding park includes a playground linked to this tradition.
A public quiz will also be available on site. Participants can submit answers at the Tourist Information Centre on Petřín. The first 135 correct entries will receive an illustrated map of Prague created by writer Alena Ježková and illustrator Michaela Kukovičová.
During the second half of May, Prague City Tourism will organize several guided walks. One of them, titled Legends of Petřín, will focus on historical sites connected with local stories, including references to former execution grounds once located in the area.
Visitors will also be able to join curated tours of the Mirror Maze and evening walks across Petřín Hill. Some of these events will include stargazing sessions in cooperation with a nearby observatory.
In early June, the program will shift toward children. A creative workshop scheduled for June 3 inside the lookout tower will allow participants to build miniature towers using simple materials such as cardboard, string and wooden sticks.
A few days later, families will take part in an interactive route through the Mirror Maze. The activity will combine visual puzzles and clues inspired by the historical figure Jan Marek Marci and references to the Voynich manuscript.
Full event details, including registration instructions, will be published gradually here.
To mark the anniversary, a commemorative postcard will also be issued. It will be available at the Petřín Tourist Information Centre and at the Old Town Hall souvenir shop.
Construction of the tower began in March 1891 based on a design by architect Vratislav Pasovský. The structure was completed the same year and opened on August 20, 1891. Its peak sits at a similar altitude to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which served as one of the inspirations for its design.
