Prague 2 to Invest Hundreds of Millions in Schools, Parks and Housing
Prague Morning
Prague 2 will spend hundreds of millions of crowns on schools, housing and public space in 2026, after local councillors approved a balanced budget of 1.37 billion crowns in March.
Education remains the district’s top priority. A total of 255.4 million crowns will go to primary schools and kindergartens, mainly for repairs, upgrades and capacity expansion.
Several projects are already in preparation. These include new electrical systems and lighting at the Viničná kindergarten, as well as plans to rebuild facilities at the Kladská kindergarten. The district is also preparing documentation for an extension of Jan Masaryk Elementary School, which is expected to increase capacity.
Further upgrades will target school infrastructure across the district. Boiler rooms are set to be modernised in buildings on Slovenská, Resslova and Vratislavova streets. A reconstruction of school kitchens is also planned, alongside continued renovation work at the Na Smetance elementary school, including its attic and outer structure.
The budget also covers non-teaching staff. Prague 2 will distribute 107.16 million crowns from a city subsidy to support wages for roles such as janitors and kitchen staff.
Public space and greenery form another major part of the spending plan. The district has allocated 102.4 million crowns for maintenance, planting and upgrades to parks, playgrounds and sports areas.
One of the main projects will be the revitalisation of part of Sady Bratří Čapků and the area in front of Kladská Elementary School. Work will also continue on the U Draka playground in Riegrovy sady, where reconstruction began last year.
Other planned improvements include upgrades to a section of parkland at Karlovské předmostí, changes to the area in front of the Folimanka shelter, and the construction of a new sports field near Sokol Královské Vinohrady.
Housing investments will continue as well. The district plans to renovate apartments, upgrade lifts and heating systems, and carry out attic conversions in buildings on Jugoslávská, Korunní and Bělehradská streets.
