The Prague Marathon on May 5th will cause temporary road closures and public transport disruptions. Plan your trip accordingly to avoid delays.
The 29th edition of the Prague International Marathon takes place this Sunday, May 5th, impacting traffic flow in the city center. Expect temporary road closures and changes to tram and bus routes throughout the event.
The marathon starts at 9:00 am from Old Town Square, with runners traversing a 42.195 km course across various Prague districts. The race concludes around 4:00 pm, with most closures lifted shortly after.
Police will manage traffic flow from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, gradually closing and opening streets along the route. Normal traffic resumes outside this timeframe, except for specific areas near construction zones like PařÞská, Old Town Square, and Václavské námÄ›stÃ.
Several streets in Prague 1 will be completely closed, including Edvard BeneÅ¡ nábÅ™ežÃ, U plovárny, Kosárkovo nábÅ™ežÃ, Jan Palach Square, Malostranské námÄ›stÃ, Tomášská, and ValdÅ¡tejnská streets.
Similar closures are planned for specific streets in Prague 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8. A full list of affected streets can be found on the official marathon website.
A parking ban will be in place along the entire race route on both Saturday and Sunday. Violators risk having their vehicles towed.
Public transport, particularly trams and buses, will also experience disruptions. Consider using the metro as the primary mode of transportation within the city center during the event, as metro lines will be reinforced where necessary.
