Prague to Expand Departure Panels and Totems for Metro and Rail Stations

The Prague City Council has approved a new strategy to expand electronic departure panels and introduce navigation totems.
By 2030, the city plans to install over 550 departure panels and 150 totems to improve public transport accessibility and passenger navigation.
Last year, the ROPID organization installed large electronic departure panels at 24 key tram and bus stops, with 35 more set to be added this year.
Additionally, Prague City Technology placed smaller departure panels in 30 bus stop shelters, with further installations planned. These real-time information boards provide passengers with up-to-date departure times at their exact location.
A new test project at Palackého náměstí and Nádraží Libeň integrates electronic panels directly into stop markers.
“The installation of digital departure panels continues this year. We plan to add up to 85 new panels, on top of last year’s 54. The key advantage of this system is its integration with Prague’s Golemio data platform, allowing us to triple the number of panels for the same cost compared to previous years. Public feedback confirms that such real-time transport information is essential, even in the age of smartphones,” said Zdeněk Hřib, First Deputy Mayor of Prague for Transport.
These panels are linked to Operátor ICT’s database and traffic control centers, ensuring that passengers receive real-time alerts on disruptions, closures, or other transport emergencies.
The data is also publicly available and can be accessed through third-party applications like PID Lítačka, Google Maps, and Seznam.cz.
Prague has also approved the installation of up to 150 navigation totems, designed to help commuters easily locate metro stations, railway stops, and major transport hubs. “The totems are a modern navigation tool aimed at improving orientation and making transfers smoother,” said ROPID director Petr Tomčík.
Following successful testing at Palackého náměstí, Malostranská, Háje, Eden, and Rajská zahrada, the final design features illuminated cubes approximately one cubic meter in size.
